KEEN Voyageur Hiking Shoe - Women's

KEEN Voyageur Hiking Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 13, 2008

I tried the Keen Targhee II boots first, and they didn't fit my feet well, but these Voyageurs fit like a dream! I took them on their first true trail hike yesterday, and never noticed my feet all day (usually my feet ache a bit after 5-6 miles of hiking).

They aren't 100% waterproof, due to the venting on the sides, but kept my feet dry even though I had to splash through a number of muddy portions of trail, and even manage a few very shallow dips in water as I made my way across a number of small streams. When I intentionally stuck my foot into several inches of water to rinse boggy mud off the top of my boot, however, a little water seeped inside. I'd say they are "waterproof enough" for the nice tradeoff with keeping my feet much cooler than they'd be in most 100% waterproof boots.

Patagonia Capilene 4 Hooded Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Patagonia Capilene 4 Hooded Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 5, 2007

I've been wearing this hoody as a first layer for winter hiking, snowshoeing, and XC skiing, and love it. It is warm but very breathable and I can easily add layers on top of it.
I like the hood, which I've sometimes worn under my hat when starting off on a cold morning. Later, as I warm up, it makes a comfortable light layer -- sort of like wearing a light-weight balaclava, but easier to pull off or back on. It hangs out of the way easily when I don't need to wear it.
I think this will also be a great top to wear by itself when the weather warms up a bit, but hasn't become hot yet.
