Cook it up right

MSR WhisperLite International Multi-Fuel Stove

Rating for this product: 5 March 22, 2010

Got my stove for a south american journey lasting around 6 weeks through the patagonias. Needed the international incase i was forced to use auto fuel but was never the case. Both in Argentina and Chile you can find white gas for sale. Its easier in Chile to find "Bencina Blanca" then in Argentina "Solvente". In argentina you have to more often then not visit a paint store to find it as they primarily use it as paint solvent. In chile you can find it at most camping supply stores. This stove can be a little tricky for first time users and requires diligence when storing, cleaning or repairing the stove. Take care of your equipment and it will take care of you. I used the 20oz bottle with it and was able to cook for one person for about 5 days on it.

Good glasses for protection and price

Julbo Colorado Sunglasses - Spectron 4 Lens

Rating for this product: 4 March 22, 2010

I needed a good pair of trekking glasses to battle the high UV rays in the patagonias along with the crazy winds. These glasses were total troopers. Kept the grit out and bounced back that harmful UV's to save my eyes for another adventure. I would recommend these to anyone looking to take care of their eyes while enjoying the outdoors at high altitude or in extream weather situations.

Great Cheap Shoe

Evolv Defy Climbing Shoe- 2009

Rating for this product: 4 November 30, 2009

Pro's: Cheap, Comfy, Velcro, Beg-Med Climber

Con's: Smell, Durability, Non-Tech

My first shoe since getting back into climbing. Bought it for budget and recommendation for a gym shoe to climb through the winter on. I have been climbing on them 2-3 times a week for 6 or 7 months and would have to say I've been very impressed. As I moved up on the climb chart I found them less and less responsive. So great for beginner and intermediate climbers. I would climb in the gym on the lower routes but considering a more technical shoe for lead climbing and with the higher/technical routes. They wore in quickly and the velcro is nice for adjustments or quick insertion or removal of the feet. As most climbers found, these shoes stink. I regularly roll with a can of foot deoderizer/bacteria killer to spray before and after. It keeps it to a minimum that can only be witnessed by sticking your nose in the shoe. The durabilty was great on the simpler routes but the shoes started to shoe alot of wear on the upper stuff 5.10c-5.11d. As for going outside with these...well thats were the shoes kinda fell short. Granted it was limestone karst in Thailand. But after two days of climbing the shoes looked almost dead. I'm going to climb them till the wheels fall off until i find the replacements or just order another pair of these to get me through the winter.

Great Package

Black Diamond Momentum AL Harness Package

Rating for this product: 5 September 29, 2009

Have to say this is a fantastic starter or bang for your buck harness. Love the Harness, the ATC is standard, and the chalk bag is pretty lack luster with some obvious issues but decent overall. I can't complain...I use my other bag and keep the one included for friends or extra chalk.

Fantastic Tough Pant

Mountain Hardwear Matterhorn Convertible Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2009

Great Technical Pant.

These pants were most impressive during my 2 weeks trekking in Peru. I've tried and own other pants, but would say these by far are my favorite.

Good: They worked in all conditions, easy change to shorts, ankle ties, zip thigh pockets, quickly wash and dry, durable and dependable.

Bad: The belt loops, in particular the back of the pant has almost a 12" long belt loop which can be difficult for certain belts to fit.

I would recommend these to anyone one who is serious about their outdoor gear. For the novice adventure seeker, they are a bit of overkill and the mesa would do just fine.
