Comfy bag, warm in the cold

The North Face Chrysalis Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down

The North Face Chrysalis Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 June 18, 2009

Great bag for the price! We slept in 30-40 degree nights and the bag was warm with just a long sleeve shirt and thin long pants on. The bag compresses in its compression sack very nicely and dries out quickly if it gets a little wet. I'm 6-2 and fit into the long bag well. I would have liked a zipper on the foot box to allow my feet to breath when it got warm, but I guess you can't have it all. Great bag overall.

Nice pad - comfortable

Therm-a-Rest Prolite Plus Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest Prolite Plus Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 4 June 18, 2009

This is my first sleeping pad so I don't have anything to compare it to. But it packs up small, little bigger then a Nalgene. I slept on top on pretty uncomfortable terrain, covered with small rocks, grasses, and uneven terrain. The pad held up and made sleeping much more comfortable. My only issue is the self inflating which I did not experience once in the week long trip. It doesn't take very long to blow it up yourself, so as long as you are willing to spend a min blowing into it, you will be fine.

So far so good, passes the basement test

The North Face Flying Frog 33 Bx Tent 3-Person 3-Season

The North Face Flying Frog 33 Bx Tent 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 May 23, 2009

I've only set it up in the basement, but it has passed all initial tests! Super easy to set up, loads of head room (i'm 6-2) both sitting and laying down. There is room for 2 large guys and their gear in the tent (vestibules are very large) or you can probably fit two large guys and a girl pretty comfortably. The fly is great and there are plenty of pockets and hangers inside the tent for storage. I plan on camping this weekend and the first week of June. I'll follow up after I have field tested it.

So-so.. The clock works!

Suunto Core Altimeter Watch

Suunto Core Altimeter Watch

Rating for this product: 3 May 23, 2009

I love the look, size, and ease of use this watch offers, but I have had a lot of trouble with the internals. I have found myself constantly reseting the altimeter, the barometer is issuing storm warnings on gorgeous sunny days where there isn't even a change in cloud cover hours after the warning. The face is a little hard to read in certain light, I am a young man with good eyes, so it is not just an issue for people with glasses (I have the black face orange band one). I am taking a week long camping trip to Montana in 2 weeks and will give this watch one last try. If it does not behave, I may have to return it to Backcountry. I think you can find a better quality watch for the money. I have read multiple other reviews that have worried me about getting it wet, but I have taken it fishing and it has been in 1-2 ft of water with no issues. Just don't go scuba diving with it!!!
I'll follow up and edit this review when I get back from my trip.
