I would suggest a different shoe for hiking. Like at least a trail running or light hiking shoe. This shoe will be fine for really short/light hikes, but it does not offer the support you will need for extensive hikes.

That really is your call. A powder skirt is great feature, but generally I just wear a really long first layer underneath and tuck it in. But for those deep days a powder skirt is a great feature.
