The biggest difference is that the Gunnison has two doors and two vestibules where as the Grand Mesa only has one door and one vestibule. The Gunnison also features a lighter weight pole set than the Grand Mesa. Hope this helps.

It appears that the description is wrong. These have 450 fill down insulation. The fabric is waterproof but they are not seam sealed. Minor contact with water should be fine... prolonged exposure to wet weather not so good...

50 lbs is the max load weight on all of the Kelty Kid carriers. I find by the time they're between 40 and 50 lbs, they'd rather walk anyway.

I have about the same torso length as you (around 23)and find that the Red Cloud 6650 adjusted to the max length works for me . You'll definitely max out the torso length but it will work. A 40 degree bag is perfect for summer nights.

It does have horizontal draw cord to improve your peripheral vision while its worn.

The Redtail will work with just about any hydration bladder on the market. Just place the bladder in the sleeve located in the big compartment and fish the hose through the hole at the top.

This would be a great pack for you. The lid will extend up a bit more to fit extra gear. Having extra pockets on the outside makes organization a breeze. The Coyote pack fabric does have a Durable Water Repellent finish but is not waterproof. In a brief rainstorm your gear should stay dry. If you think you're going to be out in wet weather for a while, a pack cover is an easy way to keep your stuff dry and not break the bank. Hope this helps.

The frame won't bend in transit. I'd look into getting a pack cover of some sort to keep the straps from getting hung up in conveyor belts and protect it from getting dragged around. You can also create a little shade by pulling it straight out and securing it to your trekking poles.

The ceiling is mesh on two sides and fabric on the other two sides. You can't see through the fabric.

Down is actually pretty easy to take care of. Just don't store it in a compression sack and you'll be fine. There are plenty of articles on how to wash a down bag on the internet. You can do it yourself easily. It is true that if down gets wet, it doesn't provide much (if any) warmth. As long as you're not stuck rain for multiple days without shelter, you shouldn't have a problem in the rain. I find that down bags are much more comfortable to sleep in overall. Hope this helps.

You're right, the load lifter straps were taken off these packs at the beginning of 2009. After some feedback from folks like you, we added them back on as an inline change. The packs BC.com has in stock should have the addition of load lifter straps. A tent can be strapped under the pack.

Hand wash with mild soap. You can hang dry or use a dryer on low temp setting with a clean tennis ball to return the loft of the down.

The photo doesn't do it much justice. The "flat" part on top actually has a slight slope to the back of tent. All of the seams on the tent are sealed so you shouldn't have any issue of leakage. Hope this helps.

Rob - The volume of each pack includes the sleeping bag compartment. How much volume the sleeping bag takes up really depends on if the bag is synthetic or down, mummy or rectangular. A synthetic bag is going to take a lot more space in your pack than a down bag. The Tioga weighs just a few more ounces than the Trekker. I don't want to speak for Jeff, but the Trekker may be more versatile in that you could lash a pad or other gear under the pack bag and it has more exterior pockets than the Tioga. Basically it comes down to how much gear you want to haul into the backcounty. The packs will fit and perform same. Hope this helps!

The 3950 fits a toso range of 16-22". The 3900 fits a torso range of 14-20". The waist belts are the same, you won't have a problem fitting your skinny waist! You're basically in the middle of each range, I'd go for the extra 50 cu in.

I think it would be great at the beach as long as you had some poles or another structure to attach it to. There's plenty of guy outs to stabilize the tarp if it's windy.

Frame packs are great if you plan on hiking on well maintained trails without low hanging branches. They're easy to pack and can haul a ton of gear. If you plan on doing a lot of hiking on uneven ground or off trail, I'd recommend an internal frame pack like the Red Cloud 6650 or Coyote 4750. Hope that helps.

It really depends on the type of load you are carrying and where you are carrying it. External frame packs are load warriors: packs designed to carry large loads for long distances over relatively well established trails without a lot of low overhanging branches or narrow passages. An internal frame pack is ideally suited for trips where balance is critical or where narrow spaces will be encountered.

The bottle has a unique "kicker valve". Pull the valve out with your fingers or mouth, bite the valve and squeeze the bottle. "Kick" the valve to the side and it'll retract down to it's leak proof position in the bottle. This valve allows for a little or a lot of flow without much effort.

The Gunnison 3.1 tent has two doors, one on each side. Each has about a 12 sq ft vestibule.

The Medium has a 34 sleeve and the large has 35 sleeve. You should fit into a Medium but if you want to layer under, I'd probably go with a Large. There is velcro on cuffs so you can cinch em down and keep the rain out.

Taylor is right that it doesn't have the highest of WP or Breathable ratings. But in NM (high desert) you shouldn't be running into any super colossal multi day rain storms. This jacket is more than enough to keep you dry during an afternoon T-storm and if you get hot, just open the vents and let some air in! The other bonus is that it's not going to break your bank at $66. I'm about your size and I wear an XL. It has plenty of room under it to layer if need be.

The Lightpath 2 and Teton 2 are two different animals. The Teton 2 is free standing and your entry is from the side. The Lightpath is not free standing and the entry is on the end. Although you lose some vestibule space with the Teton, you gain some livable space with a little more head room and a bit more floor space. You should have plenty of space for your gear in this tent.

This would be a great pack for a trip to Thailand. Lots of space for your stuff and the removable hood turns into a hip pack. You can load the pack from top or through the back panel so getting at your stuff in the middle of the pack is a breeze. Have fun on your trip!

Absolutely! This jacket features a 2.5 layer solvent-free laminate that has 10,000 mm of waterproofness and 8,000 gm/m2 breathability. All of the seams are taped with PVC free seam tape. This all adds up to a jacket that's going to keep you dry and comfortable in whatever weather Seattle throws at you!

Unfortunately, the fixed wheel cannot be retroed into a swivel wheel. The 2009 model features a swivel wheel.

Even though this is just the bug screen. Kelty Kid carriers are rated to 40 lbs. There's a lot of adjustment inside to accomodate your growing son!

The 2009 Speedster has a smaller swivel front wheel without a front fender. Same harness, brake, sun/light rain cover and lower storage bin. Hope this helps.

It does not have a two-way zipper. Most light weight rain jackets don't have two-way zips.

The maximum weight limit for Kelty strollers is 70 lbs. for single strollers and 100 lbs. for double strollers.

You won't have any problems with this tent. It's a simple design with two strong aluminum poles that attach to the tent with clips that also strong. This tent has been in the Kelty line for a while now and with good reason, it's simply a reliable tent. Have a great trip!

The frames are essentially the same other than the Trekker is a bit longer. The Tioga 5500 fits torsos 16-22". Tioga 5000 fits torsos 16-19". The Trekker 3950 fits torsos 16-22". Trekker 3900 fits torsos 14-20". The pocket arrangement is different. Both have a watter bottle / stuff pocket on the upper right of the pack (hard to see in the pic above). Hope that helps.

Hey Chris, Turn the pocket in the hood inside out and start stuffing the jacket in it. The mesh has a lot of stretch in it and you should be able to snap the pocket closed when you're done. Hope that helps.

The liner is 76" long. It should work just fine for a long. If you want something a little longer check out the Kelty Fleece Travel Sheet, it's 80" long. Hope that helps.
