Yeah, it does not really work. Because even after you wash it, the taste is still in their. If you just stuck to that one type of drink for the reservoir than you will be okay, but not if you are switching back and forth from water or a mixed drink.

It should be. Its going to be better than not having one! You can adjust the bottom cord however you want so I would say just tighten it up to whatever is the most comfortable.
