depending on what kind of hiking you are planning for AK (and if you are in the interior or the coast) lightweight boots should still be fine- and those would be much more useful being in FL. I work in the interior of AK and use part leather part "breathable" fabric boots and I have been fine. If water proofing is required you might aim for something with few seems but not necessarily all leather.

The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket - Women's

There are no cinch cords on the hem- the jacket does fit snugly against your waste/hips without one (though not in any way uncomfortable). There are also no velcro cuffs- again nice and snug especially with a fleece or gloves on underneath.
