Perfect summer hiking and casual pants.

The North Face Horizon Convertible Pant - Women's

The North Face Horizon Convertible Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 16, 2009

The bonus of this pant is that you can zip the legs off for a sharp looking pair of shorts. How awesome is that. I wear them over my chamois liner when I mountain bike. I wore these through tick infested, thorny trails and then zippity doo dah unzipped the legs off when in the clear or when the temperature spiked. Unlike the North Face Utility pant, the 4R size slightly touches the ground on my 5'5" frame. I'm not crazy about that but these pants are still amazing. Northface rocks.

I don't hate this hat!

Coal Colorado Flap Beanie

Coal Colorado Flap Beanie

Rating for this product: 5 June 2, 2009

I pretty much hate all hats but this one I won't mind wearing. It's still a bit dorky but aren't all winter hats? I don't know. I think this is cute and the quality is excellent. I haven't tried it in super cold weather but I think it will be fine. If not, you can probably easily slip something else under it. I got in the darker brown/black color so I can't speak for how it looks in any other color.

Canmore Lake Convertible Pant

The North Face Canmore Lake Convertible Pant - Women's

The North Face Canmore Lake Convertible Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 June 2, 2009

Excellent quality (hence the higher price) but I found the style to be very boxy and mannish. The waist is even thicker than the rest of the pant which is also bulky. I felt they were unflattering. I like the defined waist band but that's about it. They are thicker than the North Face utility pant which some might enjoy. As for me, I was hoping they would be thin and comfortable for hot weather.
I tried them on in the green. Maybe black is better. And maybe these are great to have in cooler weather. I try to give the benefit of the doubt but I just didn't like them.

Pearl Izumi PRO Argyle Original Jersey - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Pearl Izumi PRO Argyle Original Jersey - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 May 11, 2009

I gave this two stars because the quality is good but I personally feel the design is very unflattering to a women with anything other than small/flat breasts. The way the colors are placed, it adds to a boxy, fat look. No thanks to that. I'll be returning this.

Looks cool, keeps you warm

Gore Bike Wear Xenon Cycling Jacket - Women's

Gore Bike Wear Xenon Cycling Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 11, 2009

Since I have a very breathable (perfect for summer) Gore Bike Xenon bike short-sleeve jersey, I thought this Xenon jacket might be similar. My mistake. Indeed, it's states this is for cooler or cold weather and it's quite true. I tried wearing this in 45 Fahrenheit and I was much too warm. It's an effective windstopper and because it looks fantastic, I'll keep it for cooler weather. In the meantime, I will search for the longsleeve version of the Xenon jersey I own or a similarly breathable one to protect my arms from thorny trails. Unfortunately I don't see it for sale here on backcountry. A couple of final notes about this jacket. There aren't any pockets or pit zips. I don't care for pockets since I use a camelback a lot but pit zips might have been a nice feature. The material curves around your bottom which makes for an excellent splash guard. You can crumple this thing into the size of your fist, shove it into your bag, pull it out a day later and it still won't be wrinkled. Nice.

Possibly the best summer, hiking pants

The North Face Horizon Utility Pant - Women's

The North Face Horizon Utility Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 May 5, 2009

Awesome! I never knew there were comfortable pants to wear during hot, summer hikes. I've been wearing cotton and sweating too much. It was drilled into my head that cotton was the fabric of choice for heat. Natural is better, etc. I was so very wrong. Just a word of caution especially for wider hipped gals: Order a size or two up for comfort as well as style.

Spyder Winterskyn Hooded Top - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Spyder Winterskyn Hooded Top - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 May 5, 2009

The XS/S should simply be listed as XS unless you like a very, very snug fit, accentuating curves. This could look quite flattering on someone with a smaller chest. Another strike against it for me is the fact that it has a spider/spyder tacky/trendy emblem on it on the back or shoulder as I remember. I prefer low key clothing with small logos if any.

Style is good but this seems meant for someone with a ginormous head. This will be one of my few returns to Backcountry. I don't have a tape measure handy but I think I'm average to small sized.

Helly Hansen Crew Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 24, 2009

The sizing is perfect. This top is amazingly thin yet warm. Ultra lightweight. Plus, except for the tom-boyish crew neck, it's a flattering to the feminine form. Highly recommended. It's a great sale too. Hopefully backcountry will stock more and in different colors.

Incredibly sexy and functional. Wonderful stretch. The material is spongy with butter soft feel. I was surprised that the stitch design isn't symmetrical but it's still awesome. L

It was a dark and stormy night...

The North Face Venture Jacket - Women's

The North Face Venture Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 23, 2009

It looks just as cool as a rain jacket can be. The brim of the hood is sturdy and non-dorky.

If you type "Venture Jacket" into Google's image search you can see women modeling it in different colors on page ten. Also, you can watch a man wearing and reviewing it in a youtube video. The men's version is the same as far as I can tell. This makes Internet shopping so very awesome.

I purchased this at backcountry for the great service plus the price is good. Although there isn't a liner that just gives you the option of layering underneath. For this reason, if in doubt, order a size up.

Very stylish

Oakley Vent MTB Short - Women's

Oakley Vent MTB Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 8, 2009

Dang, I was going to order another pair because I liked them so much but now they're sold out. These Oakley Vent MTB Item #OAK1854 shorts are very stylish. Great price too. I'm glad I bought them on sale at a great price before they were sold out.

I agree, the zippers seem flimsy but I don't really care about that. I wear a Camelback so I don't need pockets. As for the front zipper, I think it will be fine if I take care when putting the shorts on and taking them off. A fair reason for the sale.

I was planning on removing the liner because of the "diaper" liner effect mentioned in other reviews here but it's surprisingly not bad. The fit is snug in the right places for me: The widest part of my hip is 36" in the XS so it should fit anyone equal or smaller than that measurement. If you can wear a Large size, I highly recommend grabbing that last pair of while you can. I will definitely give Oakley more business because of their style.
