Not a luxury winter retreat

MSR Twin Sisters Tent 2-Person 4-Season

MSR Twin Sisters Tent 2-Person 4-Season

Rating for this product: 2 May 9, 2009

I'm returning this product after an unpleasant night spent in it on a spring ski tour. At first the light weight and spacious interior aspects of the tent were appealing, but then the wind arrived. Despite digging a pit, building up 4 foot fortress walls, burying the stakes, and piling the skirts with snow the night in the twin sister was anxiety packed in blustery winds. Just as dinner was ready to eat a corner stake blew sending us scrambling to save it. After further reinforcement snow along the skirts, the interior shrank dramatically. Throughout the night we were subject to an indoor snow storm as the winds shook frozen condensation from the sides. In attempting to remove the twin sister from the snow the next morning the snow skirts ripped in several places. Overall this tent would work in emergency situations with a lot of extra work but don't expect a luxury retreat on a multi day tour with it.

Light duty and can't take a beating

Backcountry Access Stash Alp55 Backpack - 3356cu in

Backcountry Access Stash Alp55 Backpack - 3356cu in

Rating for this product: 2 March 11, 2009

At first this pack was great; light, lots of room, good storage, good hydration system, and comfy. Unfortunately after a year it is destroyed. All the cheapo zipper strings have come off (one ripped off the first day of use) and there are numerous holes in the light yet fragile material. Perhaps with a more gentle owner who also does not rock climb it would hold up better, but in my mind it is not a good value for what you pay (which is quite a lot).

At first I thought this pack was great; light, good hydration system, good pockets, good amount of space. But after a year it is destroyed. The cheapo zipper pullies have all ripped off (one on the first day of use) and there are now numerous holes in the light yet delicate fabric. Perhaps the owner should not take it rock climbing in the summer.....but I'm a bit disappointed in the durability after one year. Perhaps not a good value for the price.
