Outdoor Research Snoqualmie Sombrero

August 27, 2010

I would second that. I had it on right around 70 degrees Fahrenheit and it was getting too warm.

Cold Climate Kayking? Buy it!!!

Outdoor Research Snoqualmie Sombrero

Outdoor Research Snoqualmie Sombrero

Rating for this product: 5 August 27, 2010

I live in Southeast Alaska and bought this hat after it was recommended by a friend. I've been kayaking and river rafting with it and I can't express how much I love this hat. Climate ranged from ~50-70 degrees Fahrenheit with heavy rain and wind. This hat has a fleece liner with earflaps which can be worn down in the cold and when it's raining, or tucked up into the hat when it's nicer out. The Gore-tex never failed and stayed completely dry up top. I would definitely recommend buying this hat if you'll be kayaking in colder/rainy weather.

A bit short, but otherwise perfect.

The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's

The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 6, 2010

This is my first down jacket. I finally decided even if it looks like I'm wearing a life jacket all day, at least I'll be warm. I must say that it truly is the warmest jacket I've ever owned. The temps in the winter here in Michigan are usually in the teens and so far this jacket as kept me warm. My only complaint is that it's a bit short and tends to want to hike up above the waste-line.I'm 5'10" 145lbs. and the Medium fits well (minus the short jacket factor).

The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 26, 2009

I live in Michigan where temps are regularly around 20F in the winter and this jacket keeps me warm. I went with this over Mountain Hardwear's Sub Zero because it seems to be an inch or so longer and feels more comfortable and less like a life preserver. I use to be a hater on all the puffy down jacket wearers out there but finally gave in and I'm glad I did. Being a skinny dude, the winter usually kicks my ass....not this year.

I'm 5'10" 145lb and the Medium fits well.

Darn Tough Merino Wool Full Cushion Boot Sock

In all honesty, they are not as heavyweight/thick as I was hoping they'd be. With that said, they are extremely comfortable and keep the feet warm. Don't know if they're worth the price tag.

Osprey Packs Aether 70 Backpack- 4000-4400cu in

Osprey Packs Aether 70 Backpack- 4000-4400cu in

Rating for this product: 5 December 1, 2009

After switching from a Kelty to this pack, I now know what a quality pack is all about. It snugs down really nice, it's a great size for a weekend or week long trip depending how you pack, and it looks good. I've checked it on several flights and the frame hasn't bent an inch. The heat molding belt is probably unnecessary, but cool nonetheless. If you're looking for an affordable quality pack, look no further.

Great Price / Great Bag

ALPS Mountaineering Navajo Sleeping Bag: 20F Degree Down

ALPS Mountaineering Navajo Sleeping Bag: 20F Degree Down

Rating for this product: 4 December 1, 2009

This is my first down bag after owning several synthetics. Most of the camping I've done with it has been in the 30-40 degree range throughout Alaska and it's kept me warm every time. The only con is that it is quite tapered at the feet, but as long as you don't move around when you sleep you should be fine. Because it is so warm, I'll be using this bag in colder temps and sticking to the synthetics in the higher temps.

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Hooded Down Jacket - Men's

November 27, 2009

Is this jacket just a hooded version of the Sub Zero? Is it longer than the Sub Zero that doesn't come with a hood? I tried on a Sub Zero non-hooded and it was too short for my liking, so I'm curious if this is the same length.
