Sizing questions answered

Mountain Hardwear Lodown Jacket - Men's

I realize that this model of the jacket is discontinued, and MH has a new one out this year. I am writing this under the assumption that MH has kept the current model sizing consistent.

Perfect down jacket for layering (in my opinion). I have a medium at 6' 170 lbs. If I was going to wear as an outter layer, I would have returned for a large. However, I plan to use this with a midweight base layer, or maybey a sweater underneath and the MH Exposure II parka over the outside. As a cold weather mid layer the medium is perfect for me. I hate having a mid layer that is big and bulky under a shell.

In summary...if you are going to wear mainly as a layering piece - go with your typical size from MH. If you are going to wear as an outter layer, size up 1.

Best Pad I've ever used

Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad - Rectangular

The best, most comfortable pad out there...by far. Fairly light and packs small. Only used in temps down in the low 40's to upper 30's so can't speak of it in truly cold weather....but never once was I cold while using.

I often pack with a light foldable foam pack chair, so I will use that as others suggested when it gets real cold.

However, comfort with this puppy is king. You can sleep on your side, stomach, back and never feel the ground. I move around a lot when I sleep, and until I got this pad, was never comfortable through the night.

I thought about giving 4 stars because this thing a little bit of a pain in the butt to roll up and fit in the provided stuff sack, it is so comfortable, however I could not bring myself to give it any less than 5!

Better than advertised

SmartWool Microweight 1/4-Zip Top - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Picked this up on SAC for a good price, but after using would pay full price.

Used this on a 2 day hike of the narrows at zion in temps from high 30's to low 60's and never once was uncomfortable. When it was in the upper 30's I wore a cheap fleece vest or a cheap softshell and was great. When it heated up, I wore the shirt by itself and never once did I have any odor or sweat.
Can't wait to buy a midweight for use this winter!
