Arc'teryx Atom LT Insulated Hoody - Men's

Arc'teryx Atom LT Insulated Hoody - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 2, 2011

I have to agree with Geof's comment below. I've had the Atom lt for 18 months now and have been nothing but impressed, especially in wind. Just this evening it dipped down to low 30s in town, and while wearing this jacket, with just a tee underneath, I was not just comfortable but warm. I layer mine under an Alpha lt and over an Icebreaker base layer for skiing, excellent combo and warm. Have been comfortable down to the teens, but I have not had this jacket in an environment colder. It's certainly not a down jacket and in really cold, idle situations I would probably prefer a down. However, this jacket provides peace of mind if it gets wet and it takes only a good baselayer to help turn up the heat.

Here in the PNW it's tends to get wet and the atom is much better than I thought it would be in the rain. I also have to note the fit is spot on. I like when reviews provide stats so, 5'11" - 180lb, and the large is a perfect athletic cut. Sleeves are the right length and the jacket sits about a couple inches below my waistline. There is not a ton of room to layer, but I dont think its needed. I have the deep dusk color and feel the picture is accurate. The Atom is light, soft, and quiet. At times I do not even notice I have it on. It feels like wearing a really comfortable sleeping bag.

As for the question below, I like to use my hood under my alpha's hood and feel it helps to keep the hood in place and provides excellent warmth. Somtime I prefer to roll my down and keep it between my shell and neck like a gaiter. Even though the hood is not adjustable it still is a positive asset. The scuba design is helpful and it provides a relaxed fit for most situations. However, don't expect it to stay in the exact same position while moving quickly, unless you have a shell hood over top holding it in place.

Some may not like it or think its overpriced (hard to argue with it is expensive). I'm obviously a fan and don't mind spending towards the higher price point for a better performing jacket. If you're looking for a solid, semi-active cold weather jacket that provides excellent warmth with minimal bulk then stop reading a bunch of differnt jacket reviews and check this out.

Just my 2 cents...

Patagonia Down Sweater Full-Zip Hooded Jacket - Men's

November 4, 2011

Hello, I currently have the Arc'Teryx Atom LT and think it is awesome, but I am curious as to how much warmer, if any, this down jacket is? I understand the Atom is much better in wet weather, but I am looking for a much warmer jacket for winter car camping at the slopes this year. I know it gets excellent reviews but I don't want to get a jacket that provides about the same warmth as my Atom. Any thoughts or suggestions is much appreciated...

prAna Tangra Pant - Men's

October 11, 2010

I am looking for some quality, comfy pants to climb (both indoor and outdoor) in. I am curious as to the fit of these pants, are they pretty true to size or do they run small/big? Also, is there some stretch to them? Any other suggestions that you all may have for some soft, stretchy, and durable climbing pants please let me know. Thanks...

CamelBak Unbottle Hydration Pack

December 17, 2009

I'm looking for a bladder that will work with my black diamond covert ski bag. I have the smaller of the two bags, but was told a 3L would fit fine. Would you all recommend this bladder for skiing conditions? Would it be durable enough, and would the temp be an issue?

Head Skis USA S9 Heat Fit Ski Boot - Men's

April 16, 2009

The product specs state that the boots binding compatibility is an alpine binding. Does this mean that the boot will only work with one kind of binding system? Or, will the boots work with any type of bindings?
