great bag for easy traveling

Osprey Packs Porter 46 Backpack - 2800cu in

Osprey Packs Porter 46 Backpack - 2800cu in

Rating for this product: 5 June 6, 2011

we bought two of these bags for a two week trip through italy and they were perfect. it was just enough room for two weeks work of stuff, but were very easy to carry and pretty comfortable as a backpack. the bag is extremely light and rigid enough to support your back and the contents. just enough pockets (two internal, two external) help keep things organized. this is the best bag i've ever traveled with and would recommend it to anyone.

the part that i might be the most stoked about is that osprey has a lifetime guarantee so no matter how the bag might be damaged, we can send them in and they will fix it or send us a new one. brilliant.

Great Shirt

Mountain Hardwear Butter Topper Hooded Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Butter Topper Hooded Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 2, 2011

I really like this shirt for staying warm on the rock in the morning hours. It allows for easy movement but is surprisingly warm for as thin as it is. The material is supple and nice on the skin and it doesn't bunch or impede your movement.

I think the sizing is a bit weird. I can tell it's cut for someone with a bigger rack than mine. It fits perfectly through the shoulders and hips, but there's a little extra material through the chest (I think that's true from all Mountain Hardware tops). I usually wear a medium, but when I tried this on at my local MH store, I also tried the small to see if it fit better through the chest. I would suggest buying a smaller size if you want to wear it as a base layer, but going with your normal size to use it over other clothes. I don't find it to show every little thing as one reviewer suggested, but if I had bought the smaller size, I could see how that would have been true.

Overall, I love it and am happy to have found something that provides warmth with very little bulk.

Love this skirt

Mountain Hardwear Tonga Knit Skirt - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Tonga Knit Skirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 2, 2011

Very cute and versatile. If I could get away with wearing this skirt everyday, I would. The a-line cut is flattering and the stitching adds a nice feminine detail.

I'm between a medium and large and the medium fits perfectly. I find Mountain Hardware to run a little on the larger size.

Didn't fit well. I also thought it might have been designed for larger chests. Not flattering.

Great shoe, but hard to fit

Scarpa Feroce Climbing Shoe - Vibram XS Grip2

Scarpa Feroce Climbing Shoe - Vibram XS Grip2

Rating for this product: 4 July 23, 2010

i've been climbing in these shoes for about a month now and love them! edging is amazing and the rubber is super sticky. i really appreciate the stiff bottoms, especially outdoors on full day climbs. my climbing partner has noticed the difference in my climbing and now he wants a pair too.

on a recent trip outdoors, i switched to my old shoes (evolv defys which treated me really well) because we'd been climbing all day and i couldn't stand the pain of putting the scarpas back on. it didn't take more than a minute to regret my decision. it really made me realize how well the scarpas perform and how much they add to my climbing. in my old shoes, my feet fatigued from edging on the small stuff and they were sensitive to the pointy rock. the toe on the scarpas fit nicely into small pockets and are stiff enough to hold the move without a lot of effort from you. and did i mention the edging?! seriously amaing. yeah, it's that good.

however, i've had a terrible time getting the right size, and am still considering sizing up. they have a more aggressive fit than my old shoes, which i'm ok with, but i'm not sure they fit my foot right. i have wide feet with square-ish toes and i think they would fit better if my toes tapered like most peoples do (similar to the shape of the shoes). also, the heel is a bit roomy, except right at the top opening which is very tight on the achilles (doesn't seem to affect my climbing, but is a bit annoying). these are a really great shoe, and will get five stars if i can get the fit right.

fastest way to boiling water

GSI Outdoors Halulite Tea Kettle - 1qt

GSI Outdoors Halulite Tea Kettle - 1qt

Rating for this product: 5 July 10, 2009

now that we have this kettle, we don't bring any other pans with on a backcountry trip. it weighs practically nothing and boils water quicker than anything else we've tried. it saves you space, weight and fuel -- what more could you want!?

Mammut Supersafe Climbing Rope - 10.2mm

June 9, 2009

i'm debating between this rope and the mammut infinity. i like a thinner rope for the way it handles and the lighter weight. on the other hand, myself and those i climb with are only intermediate climbers doing sport-only climbs. we often hang on the rope when trying to figure out a route, but we're pretty conservative and haven't had a big fall (yet). can anyone make a recommendation between the two ropes?
