good lantern

Coleman Pinnacle Lantern

Coleman Pinnacle Lantern

Rating for this product: 4 March 9, 2009

puts out a good amount of light ,brighter than a northstar. However, my friend accidentally rubbed up against the switch that locks the globe and handle to the rest of the lantern and it came apart, fell to the ground. Just had to replace the mantle. But I would not go running around with this thing, to big for that anyway. Overall, I use this for group camping, works great, and when kept stationary its a good bright light source. If you can find it for a good price I would go for it, if you can't just get a northstar. One suggestion, either get a propane tree or a lantern stand to spread the light out, putting a bright lantern on the ground or table takes away some light. Lastly, I will say its a cool looking lantern and packs away very easy.

Brunton Orion 3-Mantle Lantern

March 5, 2009

IS this lantern really that much brighter than a coleman northstar or pinnacle? Also, I have heard it can take coleman mantles, are they smaller and thus less bright? Because I have never seen this lantern or its mantles in stores. All in all, I want to know if I should buy this lantern or get another northstar.
