Sea To Summit eVent Compression Dry Sack

April 29, 2010

I can "fit" my EMS Boreal 20 (rated at 8x16) into a small bag but it only allows me to roll the top about 2 times. I am not very convinced that this would keep my bag dry if it were out in the rain but in my backpack I am sure it would be fine. I do plan on getting a medium to try it out and see if it holds better but even if it doesn't I will pack something into it because these bags rock.

Deuter Speed Lite 30 Backpack - 1850cu in

March 17, 2010

Can the front area be used as a small shove pocket, perhaps for something like flip flops or other similar sized items?

Snow Peak Titanium Single Wall Cup 450

March 17, 2010

I have the titanium 600 (20 oz.) and a 32 oz. Nalgene bottle will not fit into it. I don't believe that there are many cups that they will as stated by Mr. Maher. I do have few SIGG bottles and all of them fit into the cup just fine.

GSI Outdoors Ultralight Telescoping Foon

GSI Outdoors Ultralight Telescoping Foon

Rating for this product: 2 May 16, 2009

I picked this up not expecting much from a sub $5 plastic eating utensil, but that being said I was still disappointed. The telescoping mechanism is prone to breakage, I had to re-attach it a few times and the tracks that the spoon part runs on collect food particles and require more cleaning than a non telescoping spoon would. I was hesitant a few times when using this product in hot food due to its flimsy plastic design, and after use and cleaning, it requires a reasonable amount of force to collapse but then has no latch at the back to keep it in compact form. It is however, lightweight and will not scratch your pots, but those or the only good things it has going for it in my opinion.

Scarpa Kailash GTX Boot - Men's

Scarpa Kailash GTX Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 22, 2009

Great combination of beefy construction and light weight. I recently used these for the first time on a weekend trip that brought me through sloppy mud, rocky outcrops, and even 2 foot snow drifts in some areas. Never got wet once and kept really good footing/traction the entire time. The fitment was good, toe box not too narrow for me and the arch support wasn't great but didn't hurt either. I am very impressed with these boots.

Hydro Photon SteriPEN Adventurer Handheld Ultraviolet Water Purifier

Hydro Photon SteriPEN Adventurer Handheld Ultraviolet Water Purifier

Rating for this product: 4 April 20, 2009

A great product that provides sterile water in a portable package. I recently used this a primary water gathering tool on a weekend trip and it performed flawlessly. I used a clean bandanna as a filter and it worked very well. The convenience of the prefilter attachment that allows the classic and journey to connect to water bottle and requires you to only shake the bottle instead of stirring it would have come in handy but 1.5 minutes goes relatively quickly.

Mountain Hardwear Light Wedge 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Mountain Hardwear Light Wedge 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 April 1, 2009

I bought this product looking looking for a fast and easy to set up tent that will keep out the elements for 3-seasons. The product is exceptional at both. I can set it up by myself very quickly and it has never leaked. The gear vestibule is another feature that I have really enjoyed in addition to its small size when packed.

Gerber Paraframe I Serrated Edge Knife

Gerber Paraframe I Serrated Edge Knife

Rating for this product: 5 April 1, 2009

Great knife for the price. The partial serration is a great feature. As far as quality and durability it has far exceeded my expectations, I embarrassingly lost it at my friend's land one fall and come spring he found it, with a little resharpening and cleaning up it functions just as well as it ever did. I still use it today.

This is an excellent knife for the money. I like the ease of use and cleaning as well as the partial serration. Durability is exceptional, I embarrassingly lost mine at my friend's land one fall and he happened to find it the following spring, after some cleaning and sharpening it works just fine. I still use this knife.

Hydro Photon SteriPEN Adventurer Handheld Ultraviolet Water Purifier

March 30, 2009

As stated above, the Classic and Journey SteriPens will connect to most water bottles via the Prefilter adapter, this pen does not and will not fit into the opening of smaller mouth bottles or canteens due to its oblong (vs. circular) shape.
