Weird fit, great function

Patagonia Capilene 1 Tank Top - Women's

Patagonia Capilene 1 Tank Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 August 21, 2009

Cap 1 suits me for its wicking, cooling and insulating properties and the tank is no exception. Great neckline for layering and just barely long enough to meet pants waistband, hovering about an inch below belly button. But, the excess fabric under the arms is really strange looking -- its really wide and pouchy there. Too misshapen (and short) to wear on its own but great function as a layering piece.

Live in these

The North Face Libra Cargo Pant - Women's

The North Face Libra Cargo Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 21, 2009

I just got the new color Bittersweet Brown. Like dark chocolate and very wearable. I'm such a fan of the Libra Cargo that I ordered regular length (perfect for me at 5'6" with hiking boots) and the long length just in case I want to wear them with a pair of Frye's with a higher heel. I travel with these, wear them in the veld and the bush every year, in winter and summer, and am more impressed every year with their comfort and durability not to mention their flattering fit. Give great booty!

Great fit

The North Face Cappello Cord Pant - Women's

The North Face Cappello Cord Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 15, 2009

Latest version of the old Ryn Cord and Parker Patch Cord, these are a big improvement in the pocket placement and waist/belt loops. Soft, plush cord fabric, just stretchy enough for movement and comfort. Give great booty. Sit about an inch below waist. Long lean leg line. Buy a size smaller than your usual -- they are cut on the generous side of the numeric size to begin with, and will grow a full size on you.

Not a success

Patagonia Hotline Tank Top - Women's

Patagonia Hotline Tank Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 1 August 4, 2009

Great fabric and prints BUT seriously long straps that are not adjustable and seriously tight shelf bra elastic band combined with lack of shaping in top so that it sags and droops along neckline and sides, plus a wide and baggy mid section with no shape to it. A dumpy frumpy item that won't keep you covered up top and will wrap you with excess fabric in the middle.

Adequate

Patagonia Capilene 1 Tank Top - Women's

Patagonia Capilene 1 Tank Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 August 4, 2009

Works fine as a layering piece. Length on me (5"6" and short waisted) is OK -- just above hip bones. Another inch would be better. Quite baggy in the pits, looks oddly deformed on its own. But functions well to wick and breathe and insulate just enough, and neckline is just right, not too high or low. Decent item at sale price, wouldn't bother at full price.

Medium compression

Eagle Creek Pack-It Compression Sacs

Eagle Creek Pack-It Compression Sacs

Rating for this product: 4 May 15, 2009

I got he medium size and so far haven't used it for travel. It is sturdy, durable (at least testing it at home), easy to use, but I've been able to pack everything I need with the Eagle Creek cubes in different sizes, and haven't had to turn to compression yet.

Double cube

Eagle Creek Pack-It Double Cube

Eagle Creek Pack-It Double Cube

Rating for this product: 5 May 15, 2009

Holds a surprising amount -- a heavy fleece jacket, fleece pants, rain shell, all the winter layers I think I'll need when I won't be able to do any laundry at all for 3 weeks, and keeps my checked bag organized. This size is too big for my carry-on but so helpful when packing a lot for a long distance, I came back and got another one.

Really works

Eagle Creek Pack-It Cube

Eagle Creek Pack-It Cube

Rating for this product: 5 May 15, 2009

I resisted these cubes for years and now wonder why I waited so long. This size holds enough winter weight pants and shirts for 2 weeks in Africa. Another in my carry-on holds a change of clothes, fleece jacket, and pajamas just in case the checked bag doesn't arrive when I do. I can find everything I need, pack everything I want in less space, and arrive feeling much less disheveled. Buy one. Or two, you'll use them.

Quarter cubes

Eagle Creek Pack-It Quarter Cube

Eagle Creek Pack-It Quarter Cube

Rating for this product: 5 May 15, 2009

I use these to carry adapters, first aid items, and even spare socks and underwear. Versatile and along with the rest of the product line they really do let me carry more, more accessibly, in less space without weighing me down.

Holds more than you need

Eagle Creek Tarmac 28 Travel Pack - 5625 cu in

Eagle Creek Tarmac 28 Travel Pack - 5625 cu in

Rating for this product: 5 May 11, 2009

One of the lightest on the market, well designed interior system, handle, wheels, straps... can't be beat. I thought I did my homework well and ordered the 28" but found with the EC cubes this size holds way more than I need, even for extended winter-weather travel -- so well designed it packs more than my old duffle bag sized at 1000 cu in. larger! Exchanging it for the 25" in the same lovely, subtle Palm color -- easy to spot without being garish. Backcountry customer service the best, as always -- made the exchange efficient and hassle-free.

Loose fit

Patagonia Capilene 1 Scoop Neck Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Patagonia Capilene 1 Scoop Neck Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 April 30, 2009

Great colors and silky feel, easy to wear alone, to sleep in, or to layer but next time I'll order a size down, this is a bit loose for ideal base layer fit. Cap 1 and 2 run larger than Cap 3 and 4.

Cozy and cute

Patagonia Capilene 4 Zip-Neck Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Patagonia Capilene 4 Zip-Neck Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 30, 2009

I love the entire Capilene range. This Cap 4 zip neck is warm without bulk, breathable so that it works across a wide range of temps and conditions, figure flattering and washes well -- no smell after multiple days wearing it, looks and fits like new after cold wash/line dry (dry so fast too). At 5.6 with a short torso, this is still a flattering length in boy and sleeves. It is more fitted than Cap 1 and 2.

flattering

The North Face Precita Pant - Women's

The North Face Precita Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 23, 2009

I got these in two colors, they are that flattering and functional. Length and rise as well as overall cut are casual yet not totally rugged looking, making them versatile. They wash and wear well, no wrinkles despite all-cotton fabric with no special treatments. But, I found that I needed a size larger than my usual TNF -- but then I usually need a size (or two) smaller in TNF since their pants tend to stretch out with wear. Precita has a heavy twill weave and no stretch at all.

Sheds

Patagonia Synchilla Fleece Vest - Women's

Patagonia Synchilla Fleece Vest - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 April 13, 2009

Perfectly adequate function and nice fit -- I like that the length is shorter than some other fleece vests on the market (esp. TNF), and it's mostly the same length front and back. Has a nice shape to the body and shows some curves. But the natural color fleece sheds and left fuzz all over everything it touched.

Clean lines

The North Face Precita Pant - Women's

The North Face Precita Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 8, 2009

Gotta love the clean lines that help these go effortlessly from trail to town. No stretch at all -- a heavier cotton canvas than TNF Libra Cargo, the Precita holds their shape well, and no need to size down; they won't grow on you after a few hours wear. I have them in every color, regular length for flats and boots and long length to wear with heels (they are that flattering). TNF casual wear sizing isn't always consistent -- Precita 8, fits like Libra Cargo in 6, and Parker Patch Cord in 4. I'm 5'6" and a standard size 6 in most street wear labels.

Metal snaps!

The North Face Ex-Beau Shirt - 3/4-Sleeve - Women's

The North Face Ex-Beau Shirt - 3/4-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 April 8, 2009

Cute shirt, flattering cut, but has metal snaps on sleeves, tabs, and front that lie right on the skin, nothing between the metal and you. Very cold until they get too hot. This one is a miss.

Travel must have

The North Face Trekker Ascent Pant - Women's

The North Face Trekker Ascent Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 1, 2009

I got these in Brownie from another vendor and would buy every color if I could find them in my size. Similar characteristics but lighter weight, smoother and stretchier fabric than Horizon, Recife, Paramount make these useful for trails but easy to dress up for museums and dinners out and exceptionally comfy on planes and trains. Pack like nothing at all, wash and dry in a flash, get them muddy on the Cinque Terra trails then rinse out for a romantic seaside dinner. Small side pockets, no back pockets. Flattering cut and clean lines, slimmer in the leg than most other TNF pants without being tight in the thigh. Fit true to size, 32 inseam in regular.

Go-to pants

The North Face Libra Cargo Pant - Women's

The North Face Libra Cargo Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 30, 2009

I have these in every color, in 6 and 8 (both fit with more or less slouch). Soft, slimming (even when loose), flattering to the posterior, nice drape to the leg when worn with trainers or boots or flats. Pockets are pretty useless except to tuck your hands in nonchalantly, but doesn't bother me. I wear them year round in Northern California, and in South Africa's winter every year (immersion trips). They travel easily and are softer and less wrinkel prone with age. When the winter wind blows, layer with Cap 3 pants.

Cute and versatile

The North Face Khumbu Fleece Jacket - Women's

The North Face Khumbu Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2009

LOVE this jacket! Buy it, in Northern California, you'll wear it year round. Great lighter weight alternative to the Denali and it's more flattering than the Pumori (which can look dumpy on the hips if you have any curves). Alba green in this product is less gray, more spring/leaf green than the same color in the Momentum Jacket.

Heavy duty stretch

Lolë Emilie Pant - Women's

Lolë Emilie Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 March 23, 2009

Nothing light about these "cords" but they sure are stretchy. The super stiff fabric will hold everything in, but feels like too -- except where they are cut too square. Very slim leg, almost a cigarette style. But they have a surprisingly boxy cut in the waist (straight and wide) and hips - the square look is less than flattering Chocolate brown is really greenish-love color.

Wide waist, stiff fabric

Lolë Rosalie Pant - Women's

Lolë Rosalie Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 March 23, 2009

Dark chocolate color is really olive brown. A stiff, very stretchy "cord" (ribbed twill) that will hold everything in. Moderately wide boot cut leg that widens from above just the knee. More flattering than the Emilie for curvy shapes, but not soft or comfortable. Like every Lole style I've tried, the waist is cut very wide for the rise, and this fabric is not easy to alter.

Almost great

The North Face Eminent Jacket - Women's

The North Face Eminent Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 17, 2009

This is a terrific jacket in many ways -- color is as depicted, lovely shape to the body (makes you look narrow unlike the Denali), perfect sleeve and body length. But the chest pocket doesn't curve with the body and on A-cup me, sticks out to the side uncomfortably -- not an issue on the roomier Denali. I'll stick with my Denali and Khumbu.

Light weight cotton

The North Face Slider Pant - Women's

The North Face Slider Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 March 17, 2009

Cut very slim in the leg, I found these to these run a bit on the narrow side from thigh to calf (not in the waist, hip, seat though). Extremely light weight cotton, cool and soft and comfy, very stretchy, but not really functional. Might as well wear shorts or if you need to cover your legs, a nylon blend like the TNF Trekker Ascent or Recife Paulista.

Cute but not comfy

The North Face Ex-Beau Shirt - 3/4-Sleeve - Women's

The North Face Ex-Beau Shirt - 3/4-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 March 17, 2009

Cute shape but the metal snaps! On the sleeve tabs, cuffs, and down the front! The snaps lie right on the skin, with no fabric to take the edge off. Uncomfortably cold on the skin until they get uncomfortably hot in the sun. This one is a miss.
