Superb Lightweight Softshell!

Mountain Hardwear Offwidth Softshell Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Offwidth Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 15, 2011

I got this same jacket about a year ago here at a super sale price. My son outgrew his OR softshell jacket, so I got him this jacket to replace it. Besides the 2 zippered handwarmer pockets and zippered Naploleon chest pocket, there is an open pouch pocket inside to store a water bottle or a hat and gloves. This is a well made and very durable softshell. It has a trim athletic cut, and is just right to wear in mild Fall, Spring, and even cool Summer days.
For colder weather or Winter use, you can add a heavy weight long underwear top or a 100 weight fleece shirt underneath it. If it is colder than that, you can easily add an insulated jacket or vest over the top of this jacket for additional warmth. It is raining hard today and in the low 60s, so I am wearing my Off Width Jacket while I write this!

Pretty Nice, But Needs Improvements

Rab Alpine Pull-On Jacket - Men's

Rab Alpine Pull-On Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 August 15, 2011

This jacket was a gift for my son in college. He likes the versatility to wear this as a wind shell or even as a light weight rain jacket for cool and drizzly days in the summer. Plus, it packs up fairly small, so you can carry it as a "just in case" jacket in a small pocket of your day pack or stuffed into itself in the hood or pocket.
But, it is cut too tight to pull over any winter layer like a fleece jacket or insulated vest. This pullover will only layer over a heavy long underwear top. The sleeves are long, which is fine, but the body is too short, so it will not cover the waist if you stretch your arms over your head ( like when climbing ). It needs another 2 to 3 inches in the chest for this size ( XL in USA, but XXL in Great Britain size chart ). And it needs at least another 3-4 inches in body length to cover your tail. If it were cut fuller and longer, I would buy one for myself.

Excellent Water Shoe and More!

Salomon Light Amphib 3 Shoe - Men's

Salomon Light Amphib 3 Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 15, 2011

I got these watershoes for my son and myself to wear for swimming, kayaking, and stream crossings while hilking. We have a lot of sharp rocks and ledge here in NH, so protecting the toes and feet is important. These shoes offer more protection than open-toed sandals, flip-flops, or those neoprene water shoes do against rocks, old fishing hooks, or broken glass.
But these watershoes are almost like trail running shoes. The soles give outstanding traction, and the mesh sides keep the air circulating in hot and humid weather. While lightweight, these shoes are durable and comfortable enough for all day wear. Finally, they come in a nice earth toned color that blends in with your clothes and your surroundings, unlike those other loud and obnoxious colors that some designer thinks that customers will buy! I love them!

So Good I Bought Another One!

Cloudveil Run Don't Walk Full-Zip Hooded Fleece Jacket - Women's

Cloudveil Run Don't Walk Full-Zip Hooded Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 22, 2011

One daughter liked the first hoodie so much that I had to buy another one for my other daughter. It has become her new favorite thing to wear while going to classes or working out at college. The fit on her is a bit loose, which is how she likes it anyway. Great for adding an extra layer of warmth under her nylon wind shirt, or under a softshell jacket, or even by itself if the wind isn't blowing too strong. I will definitely be getting one for my wife now as well.

Arc'teryx Epsilon SV Hoody - Women's

February 14, 2011

Better go with a Large or even XL ( if you plan on layering underneath this jacket ). My wife is 5 foot 4 inches and 120 pounds. She had the sleeves fit her just right and the seam right at the top of the shoulder. The length came just below her waist by 2 to 3 fingers. But the jacket was so tight in the chest and waist that she could only layer a thin T-shirt underneath. The jacket is fairly thin, so if you want warmth, it will have to come from what you layer underneath this jacket. We wanted to put PolarTec 100 shirt or a PowerStretch zip neck under this jacket. I exchanged the Medium for a Large. We will see how this works out.

Great Jacket For 3 Season Use!

Cloudveil Run Don't Walk Full-Zip Hooded Fleece Jacket - Women's

Cloudveil Run Don't Walk Full-Zip Hooded Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 27, 2011

I bought this jacket for one of my daughters. I was looking to hook her up with a hooded jacket in a stretch fleece material. This jacket fit the bill perfectly. Besides the stylish design and embossed snowflake and Cloudveil name and logo, you also get long cuffs with reinforced thumbholes to keep your hands warm. On top of all that, the fit is slimming, but still large enough to wear a Power Stretch zip neck top underneath the jacket for extreme cold weather.
How extreme? Well, we just had sub-zero temperatures and high winds after a recent snow storm here in NH. My daughter wore the jacket as described while out shoveling snow from the walks and steps. She was out there for 2 hours or more and never complained about being cold.
This jacket is so good, I just ordered another one for my other daughter ( who escaped from shoveling snow by being away at college ). I'll probably end up getting another one for my wife as well, but I'll wait to see how much she shovels first!

Great Jacket and a Great Price!

Mountain Hardwear Offwidth Softshell Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Offwidth Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 25, 2010

This is a great jacket---almost the perfect lightweight softshell that I was looking for. My son, the snowboarding college student, has "acquired" my Mountain Hardwear Alchemy jacket that I bought here last year. So, I had been looking for a replacement jacket, but this time in a more versatile lightweight version. The Offwidth jacket fills the bill.

The material is tough enough to stand up to abrasions, yet still stretch when you move. It turns back the drizzle and light rain, and stops most of the wind. It is not totally windproof, light a Gore Windstopper equipped model, but does enough of the job that you shouldn't need another layer for winds 25 MPH or less.

My only complaint would be on the fit. True, it did say "athletic fit" in the advertisement. But this jacket fits much more closely to the body than my Alchemy jacket ever did. I got both jackets in XXL. I was able to wear a PowerStretch jacket under my Alchemy. I will have to drop several pounds before I could try that with this jacket. But, now I am more motivated to keep working out and stick to my diet! My son will not be getting this jacket so easily.

Keep in mind that this is a light weight jacket, While the Alchemy alone kept me warm to 20 degrees F or so with just a mid-weight long underwear top, this Offwidth jacket is best suited to 35 degrees F or better with the same top. If I was snowshoeing or crosscountry skiing at a fast pace, then I can stay warm with the Offwidth jacket to about 25 degrees F. When I stop or slow down, I need to pull out my Primaloft vest or pullover.

Still a great jacket, and I hope to get 3 season use out of this model. The Alchemy was just too warm for anything but winter use here in New Hampshire.
