Princeton Tec Apex Pro Headlamp

Princeton Tec Apex Pro Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 September 8, 2010

I used this headlamp for Rainier in July. It was sooo bright. I brough backup batteries just in case, but the battery lasted plenty long. There are many different power settings, and the buttons are easy to access. I'm stoked that it's supposed to be so water resistant too, since sometimes I need it out in the rain for long hours. It's pretty light, powerful, and sweet! All for a great price. The batteries for it are super expensive though and a little awkward to get in the casing.

Arc'teryx R280 Rock Climbing Harness - Women's

Arc'teryx R280 Rock Climbing Harness - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 September 8, 2010

I'm upgrading from the Black Diamond Primrose (2003 version). It's definetly a step up. It's super light and uber comfy. The only issue: the rise is super short. I feel like the harness is constantly pulling me forward since there isn't much distance between the leg loops and waist. I have a 30" waist. The medium was much too tiny in the thigh, but the large was much too big in the waist. I think even the women's harnesses are designed for a boy's body, not a curvy lady. BTW this harness has a small chalk bag loop on the back (unlike the Arcteryx alpine harness).

A Little Chilly

The North Face Snowshoe Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Climashield Prism - Women's

The North Face Snowshoe Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Climashield Prism - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 September 8, 2010

I used this bag for Rainier in July. The length of the regular is snug (I'm 5'6"), if you have the mummy hood up. I used the Thermarest ProLite and it was around 0-20 degrees at night. I was very cold after a couple of hours even with my down jacket and all my layers on. I learned my lesson about the necessity of closed cell mats on snowy ground. Overall the bag was maybe comfortable to 25 degrees on the snow and the length and width are snug but not too constricting. The zippers don't catch as badly as the older models.

Patagonia Active Mesh Bra - Women's

Patagonia Active Mesh Bra - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 July 9, 2010

This bra does what it's supposed to - hold them in place...but the large seaming underneath the arms rubbed my skin off my underarms. After just one moderate ski day or a climbing session, I get big red spots under my arms. The Champion bras I got in a two pack at Costco are way more comfortable, cheaper, and are just as good as the original Patagonia bra I got 6 years ago - large, full coverage, breathable, flat seamed, and soft.

Favorite jacket ever.

Arc'teryx Gamma MX Hooded Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 27, 2009

This is by far my most favorite Arc'teryx jacket. I use it for almost everything. I got the jacket in 2005 when they only had two colors: fog & black. I have the fog color. It's sleek, has an attractive fit, comfortable, and warm, but breathable. It is a little less water resistant now (after 4 years), even after re-treating it with DWR spray on and wash in. But - nothing beats this jacket on a rainy, chilly day. I usually remain dry for about 1 hour of being out in medium rain. I use this jacket for hiking, camping, kayaking, around town, snowboarding, and napping =D .
The only cons:
1) the Schoeller Dynamic attracts stains and doesn't clean easily (my cuffs and rim of the hood are stained gray/brown).
2) the jacket doesn't have pit zips and the sleeves are too tight to push up, making it hard to cool down when you work up a sweat.

Just what I needed.

Yakima FatCat 6

Yakima FatCat 6

Rating for this product: 5 May 26, 2009

The FatCat 6 is sweet. It installed easily (with the help of another person), it works like a charm, and it looks cool. It comfortably hold 5-6 pairs skis, enough for a set for every passenger of my car. Sometimes there are binding fit issues, but the FatCat provides some accomodations for that.
Only downside: it rattles/whistles a bit when driving at 50 + mph. But, I bet that happens with all set ups.

Dansko Professional Pull-Up Clog - Women's

Dansko Professional Pull-Up Clog - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 26, 2009

I've had a couple pairs of Dansko clogs before. When you find the right fit, they're great for everything. I can stand all day, whether at work, hiking around, the beach...
The bridge tends to be low/flat which can make the shoe super uncomfortable, so here's my big suggestion: If you're a half size whether in US or Eurpean/UK size, size up your shoe.

Backcountry.com Luft 800 Down Sweater - Women's

Backcountry.com Luft 800 Down Sweater - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 March 26, 2009

This jacket was certainly a steal. It's a very affordable 800 down. It fits well and is flattering.
My complaints are: it's cheaply made. The wrists are jersey knit material that seemed streched out when I got it. The pockets are lined with a rough nylon material that catches on things.
All in all - I'm sure it performs well, but the quality is lacking. Luckily, the crummy parts of the jacket are too visible.

Nice goggles

Oakley Stockholm Goggle - Women's

Oakley Stockholm Goggle - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 26, 2009

Goggles fit well, but little tight over the nose bridge. Nice ventilation/air flow.
Oakley lenses are too expensive though. It's cheaper to buy multiple goggles than to buy 1 pair and replacement lenses.

The North Face Thunder Down Jacket - Women's

March 13, 2009

Does this jacket run true to size? Usually TNF feels big on me. I have a Patagonia Micropuff in small and Arcteryx jackets in larges. I'm right on the S/M line.

Great Jacket

Patagonia Micro Puff Hooded Jacket - Women's

Patagonia Micro Puff Hooded Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 13, 2009

Super warm. I usually wear a medium in most things, but this is a small. Patagonia always fits large. Watch out - neck can be super tigh and constricting. Otherwise it's comfy.

Nice mitts

Burton AK Oven Mitten - Men's

Burton AK Oven Mitten - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 13, 2009

Haven't used them skiing/boarding yet, but they're super comfortable, warm, and fit well...BUT I am a WOMAN wearing a MEN's MEDIUM. Sizing is incredibly small.
I'm not sure if they're actually waterproof though - they say GoreWindstopper ripstop, not Gortex waterproof. It does come with a packet of Nicwax leather waterproofing.
Overall, nice, stylish, warm, comfy mitts.

Sizing is tight

Arc'teryx Sidewinder AR Jacket - Women's

Arc'teryx Sidewinder AR Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 6, 2009

I usually wear a small in arc'teryx, so I ordered up to a medium since I heard the sizing is tight. The hips are very tight, and I could barely zip the neck up - it choked me! The body was fairly baggy though. Too bad, because I liked that jacket.

Sleeves are weird

Norrøna Lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Shell Jacket - Women's

Norrøna Lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Shell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 6, 2009

The jacket fits more flattering than arc'teryx plus the colors are more interesting. The sleeves are kind of weird though. They have a little extra fabric that lays over the back of the hand. I haven't quite figured out what's it for - maybe water run-off? The snow skirt fits wells and zips out too. There is an ipod pocket with flaps to secure the headphone cord.
The sulphur springs is blindingly lime/green, but the blue atoll with maroon zippers is beautiful. Nice, superlight, attractive jacket overall.

Is there any way to prevent the stain from washing off? I've had two pair that the stain washes off immediately with moisture.

Super comfy and stylish

KEEN Wear Around Mary Jane Shoe - Women's

KEEN Wear Around Mary Jane Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 23, 2009

These shoes are super comfortable to wear all day. They might give you a blister on your heel though if you don't wear nylons. Also, the inside dye rubs off on your socks/nylons/feet. These shoes go well with everyone from work clothes to casual wear to dresses.
