  • Stomping Grounds:

    Park City, Utah
  • Bio:

I was working as a PE teacher in Bonnie Scotland, land of kilts, haggis and whiskey.

After buying a house and starting to go too far down the career route I decided to take a year out to Park City to get my head straight.

After returning to Scotland, I have decided to get back to Utah and live the dream.

I have met some wonderful people on my travels but my friends in Park City are second to none. We live by the bro-code and after the kindness they have shown me I hope to pass it on to others.

Having learned so much in such a short period of time my aim is to help others who are taking years out to learn as much as possible about this great industry.

Skullcandy Double Agent Headphones

November 23, 2009

Yes you can use it for anything that the headphone jack will fit (3.5mm?).

However I will say this, the adaptor (for want of a better name) is like a camera charger and sticks out like a sore thumb. It is also prone to breaking as the inside is very fragile and can easily get caught. Mine did and I had to return it.

If you plan on using your iPod a lot with these headphones then I would tend to get another pair of Skullcandies

Another Annex That Could Start an Intervention by the UN

Special Blend Annex Shell Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 12, 2009

At 6’2”, 34 waist, I decided on the XL Grape colour and still have to wear a belt pretty tight. They do however look and feel great. I wear these with a lime green jacket and have been complimented constantly on my gear. Although I like to be bright, I am not a fan of over-the-top designs, but that is what is excellent about these pants, you can choose either.

These cater for all kinds of skiing. I always wear thermals underneath, so I have never felt too cold, even when it is puking on us in Utah, but with the 10k breathability and 15k waterproofing you will have no complaints from downstairs.

If you do start to get a little too warm, open up them vents and let Mother Nature blow a cool air around your loins.

And when it is time to head home, don’t forget the ‘Steeze Button’ !

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the Steeze Button (Copyright – Me!). Inside each main pocket there is a draw string that you pull and like magic the bottom of your pants levitates and stops you treading on them! Fantastic idea.

I own two pairs of these, and I am almost buying another, but I gotta feed myself this week.

These Jesters Are No Joke

Marker Jester 16 Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 5 November 12, 2009

Like I said in my review of my Atomic Snoop Daddies, before last season I was an OK holiday skier without much knowledge of skiing equipment. But since last November when I moved out to Utah, I have pushed myself to progress and learn as much as possible about snowsports. I think I can speak confidently for those of us who aren’t claiming to huck 20ft+ cliffs when no one else is around…

When I got my Snoops I mounted a pair of Marker Jesters on them and really let rip for the season.
Skiing in Park City I was trying everything, groomers, park, trees, switch, learning to butter, but also bailing, hitting knuckles, hitting said tress, you name it.

When I first got my skis I actually broke a pair of Rossi bindings knuckling the first jump in Jonesy’s Park in PCMR but I did exactly the same again with my Jesters and they soaked it up.

I found them to be a light binding in comparison and couldn’t believe the control I had. Quick turns, accidental bails, I felt secure in that my Jesters somehow knew I could either recover and stay on, or think; “Sorry dude, we are outta here”.

Even though the binding can go all the way up to 16, I never have mine higher than 10, and this is because I like hitting the jumps in the park. I am 6’2” and around 80kgs/180lbs and these babies are perfect, even if you think your skiing is not.

Not Quite There Yet

Skullcandy Double Agent Headphones

Rating for this product: 3 November 7, 2009

They look great and the idea is solid. No wires, no iPod, no problems...?

No chance!

I had to take one set back. OK for me as I live in Park City (and I got hooked up with a pair of 2XLs that weren't out yet-gotta love The guys and gals at Skullcandy!) but for other people all over the world, the build quality isn't always up to standard.

They have a very thin film of plastic that has also peeled off them but what annoys me the most is the memory cards.

I have 2 Skullcandy SD cards and both do not like lots of songs. I have tried various ideas, changing the root menu etc, but it should not be this difficult.

I only paid like $50 for these new, and right now, until they sort out the firmware issues, that is all they are worth.

Great One Ski Quiver for Intermediates Who Push Themselves

Atomic Snoop Ski

Rating for this product: 5 November 7, 2009

Before last season I was an OK holiday skier without much knowledge of skiing equipment. But since last November when I moved out to Utah,I have pushed myself to progress and learn as much as possible about snowsports. I got the Atomic Snoop Daddies (last year’s model) for a bro price and they helped my skiing come on a treat.
I am 6’2” and around 80kgs and was hooked up with the 176s. I mounted a pair of Marker Jesters on them and really let rip for the season. Atomic have added on some extra length but kept the turn radius the same. Expect some more speed and float! If people are worried about this extra few centimeters, don’t. As they are twin tipped they will ride shorter.
As I am from Scotland and was used to skiing either beginning or end of season crud in Europe, Utah was a big change. For an intermediate skier out riding everyday these really are a great one ski quiver. They coped with everything in Park City, 10+ inch days, sidecountry, trees, park, switch, goofing around. I have no doubt these fantastic skis helped me become the rider I am today. I literally went from unable to land 5 foot bump jumps to stomping 30 foot bad boys, ripping pow and sliding C boxes.
At this price you really cannot go wrong and with the excellent customer service that Backcountry provides, it is a no brainer. BUY!
