Skullcandy Icon Soft Headphones

Skullcandy Icon Soft Headphones

Rating for this product: 4 October 17, 2010

These headphones are an awesome bridge from the portable earbuds to the jam-out studio cans. Sound is full without too much bass, fit is comfy on the head and around the neck, and woven cord eliminates the noise that I've had with the rubber cord on the ind'd buds. They're a lil more flexible and durable then some other Skullcandy products too! I will say that the while the fit is loose enough to wear over a beanie/under a helmet/with goggles, even for my sizable dome it's a bit loose to be head bangin' without the phones slipping off. You definitely have to be ok with the "hey I'm wearing headphones" look, as always Skullcandy gear is bright and loud with some "sound leak" factor letting others hear what you're listening to in public. No experience yet with the mic but note that you get only the standard 3.5mm plug for smart phones, not a mini 2.5mm for crappy phones like mine. Rock on!

CLASSIC

The North Face Nuptse Down Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 21, 2009

here it is folks, your basic but oh-so-awesome down vest. whether over a hoodie or under a shell, this thing is warm & stylish every time. 2 front zip pockets with storm flaps (which can get caught on door handles & such, watch out) and 1 inner vertical zip that doubles as a compression pouch (I wouldn't recommend long-term storage, it's pretty packed in there), plus an "emergency" (read: thin, just a layer of fabric with a basic brim, no down) adjustable hood and drawcord hem on the sides. the shoulder fabric is also a bit tougher for pack straps, front zipper is plastic and sides are metal. this is the vest you will be handing down to your kids in 20 years, if you can stand to give it up.

solid, but not the best

Giro G9 Helmet

Rating for this product: 3 December 21, 2009

I own the previous year's Nine.9, though the helmet has changed very little over the years. It's a good helmet all-around, but there some things are left to be desired. First, the venting system can be a little awkward, you have to take off the helmet and remove one of the three vent plugs which then expose your dome directly to the wind (and don't lose those plugs!). Second, the fit is not perfect as the inside of the helmet consists only of some swatches of padding velcroed to the inner helmet foam (the newer G9 has more padding and a rear adjustable sling though). Third, the goggle integration could be improved as the slick plastic can cause goggles to slip down and create the dreaded "gaper gap." other than that it's a good helmet that will certainly look decent and last you several seasons (unless you take a gnarly spill, then replacement is a good idea). Just try it on in person first.

Dragon Mace Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 December 21, 2009

been rocking the Mace with the Ionized lens for a couple of seasons now and it has never ceased to perform as a great all-around goggle. no lens-changing options, no adjustable vents, no other fancy features, but it has performed great from flat light to bright days, all while looking dope. never had any fog problems, even after wiping the inside & outside several times (and never any fog between lenses). fits the larger faces in pressure-free adjustable comfort!

BOOMIN

Skullcandy Skullcrusher Headphones

Rating for this product: 5 September 17, 2009

ok i'm no audiophile, but stuff just sounds GREAT outta these things with the bass boost on (it's adjustable). they definitely overcrank the bass on any song (rock, rap, classical, no genre is safe), but if you want some kickass tunes on the mountain or on the streets these are the first choice. the earcups are soft, the fit is nice and sound is isolated, and nobody can beat skullcandy style.
be ready to kill a aaa every coupla months though, because with no bass boost tunes are just kinda flat

Skullcandy Ti Stereo Headphones

Skullcandy Ti Stereo Headphones

Rating for this product: 3 September 17, 2009

the kids these days are all about "style," and the TI's definitely have it, from the color combos to the DJ look. and if that's what you're about, then the TI's will suffice. they've even got in-line volume and a cor extension if you ride with em on.
unfortunately, their fit and sound quality is sub-par, even for skullcandy. very little bass definition even when you crank em up (if you're lookin to really boom then the skullcrushers are a better choice), plus the newer leather earcups just don't hug your head that well. even though they cover your ears, people will likely be able to hear your music and mine just hurt after a while from the headphones being too tight. not to mention that they are a bit delicate, mine cracked when i spread em out to fit onto my head (god bless skullcandy's amazing returns policy).
Bottom Line: easy on the eyes, but leaves the ears and the head wanting more.

Skullcandy Ink'd Bud Headphones

Skullcandy Ink'd Bud Headphones

Rating for this product: 5 September 17, 2009

especially now that these are down to a reasonable price, i'd say they're the best deal for earbuds i've seen. i'm no audiophile but i've compared their sound and it is SO MUCH better than the stock iPod ones or the cheapies you get at wal-mart, much better bass, richer more defined sound, and a great fit with the silicone cups. no in-line volume or anything, but they look great and are perfect for a casual earbud to rock on the go.
I will say that it is not difficult to lose the silicone cups, although they come with extras in different sizes it doesn't hurt to superglue em in.

Cutter Shop Hat - Men's

Cutter Shop Hat - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 17, 2009

unlike the conspiracy hat, this Cutter piece is a bit more subtle with a stripe-textured outside and a nice gray color. the bright green brim bottom and silk inside add nice accents, as does the sweet alien logo on the back. I will say I've gotten a couple of comments about having "Cutter" in big letters on my head though, haha. Stretches for a decent fit and is plenty deep (especially in the crown, that part doesn't even touch my head). gets a little hot for sunny summer wear, but that means it should be good all year.

quality hat you won't see anybody else wearing

Cutter Conspiracy Hat - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 29, 2009

Aside from the, "Oh, so you're a cutter?" questions from bystanders, this hat is the best. From the silk lining to the embossed logo patterned on the outside of the hat, it's obvious a lot of care went into making this baby. It does get a little hot under there, but that's just another excuse to wear it all year! The bright green gets ya noticed, and the other sprocket heads will get the logo joke. Great purchase, especially when it's on sale.

Best. Jacket. Ever

The North Face Free Thinker II Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 29, 2009

I've never been one to blow such a big chunk of change on anything, but this jacket was worth every penny. There's a reason this is the official patrol uniform at Silverton Mountain: it's a bomber jacket that can't be beat.
Though it's not really insulated, the Gore-Tex Pro Shell keeps heat well while still breathing, the most I've ever needed to layer with it was a fleece top on a really cold day. It was a bit hot for the sunny spring days though. Pockets abound everywhere on this jacket; if you can't find a spot for everything you're carrying too much (the large front pockets fit a small water bottle perfectly). Open pit zips ventilate incredibly well, and the powder skirt keeps the fluff out (the "pant-a-locks" even work with standard belt loops). My older model had a smaller hood, the new helmet-compatible one is a welcome upgrade. Runs pretty big, I normally wear large and the medium is a loose fit.
Bottom Line: It looks great and performs great on anything you care to ski or board. Maybe not the best deal on the market, but you will not regret the purchase.
