Believe this is a climbing jacket

Patagonia Down Jacket - Women's

Patagonia Down Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 February 16, 2009

I believe that Patagonia meant this to be a climbing jacket hence the larger shoulder area and short jacket length. When you buy a jacket be sure you understand what activities it was designed for. Many people buy a jacket thinking all jackets are for wearing to town or skiing and that is not the case. A town jacket will be longer and closer fitting. One that is designed for specific activities will be cut with the movement patterns in mind. Climbers need to move in all directions and the jackets must be cut differently for that. Ski jackets sometimes have articulated sleeves because your elbows are bent most of the time when you ski. Be sure to read what the jacket is designed for and that will give you an idea of how and why it is cut the way it is. You need longer sleeves if you are always reaching up as in climbing.
