I'm a fanatical gearhead who never left the lower desert of Ca. till I went to Weber State in Ogden, Ut. There I was confronted with the beauty of the mountains and the backcountry they provided. 12 backpacks, 4 tents, numerous boots and countless clothing items later, I still cant seem to get enough. Lowa Banff Pro Backpacking Boot - Men's

Lowa Banff Pro Backpacking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 20, 2010

These are compltely bomber boots. After owning many pairs of boots over the last 17 years, these are hands down, great. Yes they are on the heavy side. Yes they do take a bit to break in. But they are meant for big loads across sketchy terrain. Not fastpacking 15miles in a day. The insole is flimsy and I feel that for the price, it should include a better one. Quality construction is second to none, and I see these being my go to boot for a long, long time to come.

Mountain Hardwear Microchill Fleece Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Microchill Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 20, 2010

Love it to death. I can't see myself ever not throwing this in my bag. My old 200 weight MH fleece was always just to hot, particularly when used under a shell. This fleece is just right and could only be improved, imo, by some pit zips. Longer than normal sleeves, cinch cords at the bottom and a trim, but not to trim a fit. I wish I would've bought one earlier. It should be noted that I have high heat output. So while its plenty warm for me, it may not be for you.

Worth the sale price.........

Mountain Hardwear Chockstone Softshell Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Chockstone Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 April 20, 2010

Well, this is my first soft shell and all I have to say is, meh. No cinching around the wrist, waist, and hood, which is small and kinda funky and looks funny while wearing it. Its also pretty long to be an aerobic type piece of gear. Its kinda got the length of a parka, not a jacket. I can see wearing this around town in a drizzle. But not much more. I bought this on sale and its the only reason Im not taking it back. I like the MH Offwidth alot more, but it has no hood, which is why I went with the Chockstone, aside from the sale price. 3 stars.......barely.

Mountainsmith Mayhem 35 Pack - 2135 cu in

Mountainsmith Mayhem 35 Pack - 2135 cu in

Rating for this product: 4 April 20, 2010

I like this pack alot. Very nice suspension that fits even the long torsoed. But the belt leaves a bit to be desired. Its nearly non-exsistant. And i feel that if the designers thought a pack of this size should have 2, burley aluminum stays, then they should've given it a belt to match. Heavy loads with this pack tax the shoulders after even short distances. Im keeping it as it has found a place in my arsenal of packs. Its great for short jaunts with a fly rod plus boots waders and 2 boxes, and snow shoeing with lunch and a layer or two. But wieghted down, it tends not to feel so good. Its nearly perfect(for me), and the things that I do with it. And with a bigger belt, it would be my go to pack most, if not all the time.

Gregory Denali Pro 105 Backpack - 6100-7000cu in

February 15, 2009

There is no standard Denali. The Denali Pro is just Gregory's top-of-the-line catagory pack along with the Makalu Pro and the Robson Pro(discontinued). I have a Robson Pro and a Teton, both of which are'nt made anymore. Biggest difference is the suspension system. Both are very comfy though. I have 3 Gregory's all together. They are my favorite pack maker.
