  • Stomping Grounds:

    Western New York
  • Bio:

I have been camping/hiking/backpacking for most of my life ever since joining the Boy Scouts way back in sixth grade.

I am new to bouldering and big wall climbing, but enjoying the sport.

Mountaineering is my next challenge. I hope one day to climb the 7 summits (set your goals high :P).

Impulse SAC buy but worth it

DAKINE Factor 1/4 Zip Top - Long-Sleeve - Men's

DAKINE Factor 1/4 Zip Top - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Bought off of SAC. I really love this fleece. I almost wear it too much. Very compfortable. Keeps you warm in the cold, but you can still wear it on warmer nights. Cleans well, and is practically dry out of the washer.

Well worth the money.

Excellent Choice

Black Diamond Contour Elliptic Carbon Trekking Pole

Black Diamond Contour Elliptic Carbon Trekking Pole

Rating for this product: 5 July 22, 2009

While looking for poles for mountaineering I realized I could spend $100 and get some decent poles, or just spend the extra $60 and get the best of the best. I have not used any other type so I cannot comment on comparison, but these worked great for me on their test run to Muir on Rainier. Without them I would not have been able to ascend the snow fields. These are very strong. I am over 210 lbs. and they were able to support my weight from falling on a few backcountry trails.

I highly recommend these poles for anyone considering buying.

La Sportiva Spantik Mountaineering Boot - Men's

June 25, 2009

Is this boot too much for a mountain like Rainier? Basically I am looking for a boot that I will be able to use at lower altitudes if needed. Thanks!

Excellent All-Around Pants

Columbia Omni-Dry Silver Ridge Cargo Pant - Men's

Columbia Omni-Dry Silver Ridge Cargo Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 27, 2009

Very suprized as to their lightweight nature and breath-ability. I have worn these in 90+ degree days and still have been comfortable. I imagine they would still work well in the cold with a pair of long underwear.

If planning to use the shorts, you must note that they are fairly short. I am 6'3" (average torso - leg ratio) and they come high above the knee. They are not the old school basketball short shorts, but short enough to worth mention.
