  • Stomping Grounds:

Pedaling the roads of Berks County, PA. Paddling & portaging in Algonquin Prov. Park.
  • Bio:

If I could bike from morning 'til night, I'd be the happiest person on Earth. Nothing better than experiencing the world on a bicycle.

Fall in Algonquin has to be one of the greatest sights ever. The oranges, browns, reds and greens reflecting on blue waters is just awe-inspiring.

Unfortunately, I haven't hit the trails with these shoes yet, but as far as navigating the urban jungle, they're good. I found that sizing is a tad odd, in that if you're in between sizes like I am, then the perfect fit is tough. I went half-size larger, and find the toe box a bit too long. Normal size, and they were too snug. I'm an underpronator, with high, rigid arches. These supported my feet nicely with good cushioning. The insole has a strangely raised center, though. Don't know how flat-footed folks would like that. Generally speaking, a good shoe. For folks like me, I think half-size up with slightly thicker socks, and life is good.

Singin' in the rain...

Marmot Aegis Jacket - Men's

Marmot Aegis Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 16, 2009

Love it. Kept me dry in the messiest of downpours. The Dri-Clime neck lining and sleeve ends are a nice touch, as are the pit zips. I found it to be plenty breathable. If you stow the hood, the collar sticks up like an '80's polo, but that's more a result of the stiff brim on top of the hood. Hood has good coverage, but the read velcro adjustment in place of the drawstring doesn't allow for quite the fit adjusment many might like. The fit is just right for layering over a lighter fleece or sweatshirt. Definitely a great jacket for the money.

The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's

The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's

I bought one of these just before this year's deep freeze and snow in the Northeast, and this puppy kept me toasty. The fit is a little snug, but if you go one size up, you should be gold (I'm 5'8", 165#, and I got the large so I could more easily layer underneath). The neck is a little tight when completely zipped. In terms of performance, though, this jacket is the cat's meow. It shrugged off snow and light rain without a problem, and it's most definitely warm. I haven't used it yet on any winter tripping, but for everyday use, you couldn't want more.
