  • Stomping Grounds:

Lake Charles Louisiana....Not a swamp person.
  • Bio:

Although I've grown up and live in southwest Louisiana, (ie-the flat/wetlands) my heart just isn't here.

When I was 13 back in 1972 my Dad loaded our 1970 Pontiac Bonneville (God that thing was a beast!!) with Mom, 4 of my sisters, (I have 6) and we set out for Hamburg Iowa. Dad's hometown. He told me that we would be passing through the Ozark mountains, which was about 10 hours from home. I couldn't believe my eyes that earth and rock could reach such heights. Later in life when I first laid my peepers on the Rockies, and my favorites, the Grand Tetons, I realized the Ozarks were mere babies compared to these. Although now, at 52, I'm still in Louisiana (because of family, well....and the food) I make at least 2 trips a year into the mountains. Winter....I love the cold and any other season. I'm healthy and happy. Life is so good.

Killer Pants

The North Face Freedom Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 23, 2011

Just returned from a work week in Pittsburgh where I would go off hiking for a couple hours in the afternoon. These pants performed like a champ. I'm from southwest Louisiana and not at all acclimated to northeast winters. I put on a pair of cotton thermals underneath and took off. I stayed warm and very comfortable in these pants and at one point laid down in the snow for several minutes just to test them out. I only felt a slight cool sensation through them. I'm 6'1" with a 33/34 waist and ordered the medium long which fit perfectly. I highly recommend these pants.

This jacket is the bomb!!

The North Face Vortex Triclimate Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 26, 2010

Ordered this jacket on a monday, received it on friday. WOW!!Just in time for a cold front, with rain, that moved through south Louisiana where I live. I'm 6'1" 185 lbs. medium build and ordered the large and it fit perfect with enough room to layer underneath if need be. I know that our winters are nothing compared to you guys in the north, but when the temps drop to freezing and below here, it's a damp, chill to bone kind of cold. I was wearing this jacket on Christmas day outside with my grandchildren in upper 30's rainy weather windchill in 20's and never felt one ounce of cold. I usually take winter vacations in the Rockies and can't wait to see how this jacket performs. I'm so confident it will keep me toasty that I've already started giving away my other jackets as I've purchased TNF products for years (ie: shoes, pants gloves) and although a little pricey, I've never been disappointed. Well worth it. I always research a product that I'm about to spent so my dough on before I buy, and if you're like me you take a lot of stock in customer reviews. Read the reviews on this jacket then order it. Backcountrys prices are competitive and although this was my first order with them I am a customer now and will be ordering from them in the future. I will return here after my snowshoe trip in the Rockies in Febuary 2011 with a review on this jacket. Happy New Year!!!

Just returned from a work week in Pittsburgh where the temps were in the teens and twentys and it snowed almost constantly, with wind gust to almost 30 mph. I spent a couple hours every day after work walking through the snow, really enjoying the cold. I put this jacket and also a pair of TNF snow pants through a vigorous test. I'm from southern Louisiana and not at all acclimated to a Pittsburgh winter. Folks, I layered underneath with a t-shirt and cotton pair of thermals. I tell you this jacket performed flawless. The wind CANNOT!!!.... penetrate this jacket. I even laid down in the snow for several minutes and only felt a slight cool sensation. So if you're like me and you research and ponder before you buy, especially since this jacket is right at 300 bones. Once you're in a harsh winter condition you're going to be so glad you have this jacket for protection. THAT IS A GURANTEE!!

I DON'T want to take these off

The North Face Paramount Granite Convertible Pant - Men's

The North Face Paramount Granite Convertible Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 3, 2009

These pants are abosolutely fantastic. Got em soaking wet and in about half an hour they were completely dry. These pants are great for winter golf here in southern Louisiana. At the start of my round the other day the temp was in the mid 50's and as the day wore on and the temperature began to rise, just zipped off the legs for a comfortable finish. Perfect.
