Sea To Summit 100% Premium Silk Sleeping Bag Liner

Sea To Summit 100% Premium Silk Sleeping Bag Liner

Rating for this product: 3 January 5, 2010

I purchased this green double/wide silk liner to go with my super fantastic Western Mountaineering sleeping bag. I got the wide/double version for myself..so I can have more room in the bag to move around in and stick my legs out when it gets too hot- without feeling so trapped. The "wide" silk is nice and smooth..I've never used a silk liner before so I tried it out on my regular bed the first night ..it was a little strange at first , but the next morning I said to myself.."Wow this is great.."
So far I've slept about 20 nights with it in my sleeping bag, the silk is tissue thin so the extra width doesn't feel too baggy "for me"..Even when the fabric gets squrunched up in the sleeping bag when fully zipped. it does take some time to get use to getting in and out of liners..NO zipper entrance, just a french seamed bag.
Pack and stuffed really small, Rip stop silk is great (big plus), machine wash and air dry very fast.
My only issue is: It feels short for me and Iam only 5'9..after the first night, I measured it and its only 73 inches wide and 70 inches long (not 73" as stated)
I wish they made the wide longer..once you are in your sleeping bag with this liner. the Liner bag would only rest a little below my chest..so a few more inches (like 6-8 inches) would really make the difference.. otherwise It does keep expensive sleeping bags clean. Hope this help.

Arc'teryx Arrakis 40 Backpack - 2441-2624cu in

December 28, 2009

hi, Im interested in this Arrakis 40 or the 50
Does anyone have the L x W x D of these 2 bags (Arrakis 40 and 50) I would like to be able to use it as an airline carry on bag /travel bag..
(I like something high performance,durable..comfy backpack/travel bag)
Anybody use these two as their carry on bag..
are there that much difference between these two (SIZE WISE)?
Are the hip belts removable?
Thanks much

Arc'teryx Gamma LT Softshell Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Gamma LT Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 22, 2009

This light Soft shell jacket was a surprise for me..light, durable, high performance- great cut with no shoulder seams but with longer gusset pieces under the arms so it produces no lift of the jacket while lifting your arms.(a liitle bit better lift than my other Gamma SV jacket since the Gamma SV uses thicker materials)I think this is a plus. Good zipper, nice collar when fully zipped. You get more usage out of this jacket because of its lighter, EZ to wear in various seasons and one can layer with other pieces...Minor Cons are--The material is light, but a little scratchy on bare skin on the inside ..when wearing a take top under this jacket. the material does make sounds--so a little noiszy material. Get it when its on sale from Backcountry...thanks

Arc'teryx Covert Vest - Men's

Arc'teryx Covert Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 December 8, 2009

first, I love the longer length of this vest...I wear it around the house, it covers the waist without ridding up when you are reaching up for something..great zip, nice collar when fully zipped ..
BUT...I have washed this vest twice already (following the instruction) cold, delicate wash and air dried..but its starting to pill now..
a little disappointed with this..my 20 bucks Columbia vest has been washed and washed and washed..always "high" dried over the year and still no pilling...this higher priced Arcteryx vest washed twice is already showing pilling.

Nice Jacket

The North Face Himalayan Down Parka - Men's

The North Face Himalayan Down Parka - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 23, 2009

This year I finally retired my old, well used jacket. So I was in the market for a lighter /warmer down jacket to mainly use for shovel snow in..the temp this winter in the upper mid west was very harsh--even few days down into the -30 territory..
I visited Seattle's Feathered Friends--I love their Rock and Ice Parka but FF's cut was way too tight on my waist. I needed more than a XXL on FF's --and the sales lady wasn't too sure if they can make more room around the waist..But the fit and finish was very, very nice.
Then I tried Mountain Hardware Sub-Zero jacket---way too short.too light .returned it right away..
Order This one...NF has a more generous cut (around the waist) for us big guys..Fit and finish is much better than MH's Sub-Zero. (but of course not in the $800 FF custom parka bracket) ..Its lighter than it looks, It looks way better in person than the image provided, Red looks very handsome-- But No doubt -this jacket will look huge on you but when you are in the below -0 temp range, No one will stare.. overall..its a nice parka, I like the Hobo gloves..they work well when you are walking about in the freeze..The Hood is well designed--covers your ears with the high collar and it hugs your head with only a few pulls--The only weakness on this parka is the YKK front zipper...they are difficult to mate and catch correctly..It often takes more than a few tries..but once mated correctly...pulling up the zipper is smooth..I Hope the zipper will last, other wise this is really a very nice jacket ..Hopefully NF Life time warranty would help if the zipper gives in down the road.. ...NF should improve this zipper in their next version if there's one..Overall..its a great Buy from backcountry..with this special price..its hard to beat....
