Stomping Grounds:
Big Sky, MT -
Bio:
Frisbee Golf, Miller High Life, and a good cornish game hen is all I really need in life. I quit my engineering job with a worldwide contractor to finally start enjoying life. Ended up in what might be one of the best places in the country. If you can't stay busy outside in Big Sky, there's something wrong with you!

silas shirley's Climbing Granite Peak, MT
Created October 20, 2009
This list is my normal pack for a single day car-summit-car hike. It's not an ultra light setup because I like to have everything I need when in an isolated area. Didn't need a rope for this climb but that would be added for certain peaks. Items not on Backcountry.com that are always on my list: Bear Spray, REI Hikers First Aid Kit, Leatherman, Toilet Paper, Lighter & Matches, Coopertone SPF 50, White Sierra Shorts (1 pair), Old Vasque Hiking Shoes, Old North Face Climbing Pants, Old Burton Beanie, Extra Pair of Underwear, Eddie Bauer Ebtek Long Underwear, Compass, & 7.5 minute quad of Peak.

Back of Vest
Red Impact Vest - Men's
June 20, 2009
Here's a picture of the back. You can kind of see the outline of the shell, but it's really hard to tell it's an impact vest....just leave it on and grab a beer.

Just measured them. The segments are 16.25"/41.28cm. The end segment is a little longer at 17.125"/43.50cm. Hope this helps.

Black Diamond Bipod Bivy Bag
October 17, 2009
The pole has an extremely tight fit inside the bivy so you shouldn't have to worry about the stability. I haven't had any trouble to date with it in the wind.

Black Diamond Bipod Bivy Bag
September 14, 2009
The pole weighs 84 grams. You can definitely use the bivy without the poles (I have many times). All the pole really does is give you a little head room which can be nice at times.

Snow Peak Landbreeze 6LX 6-Person 3-Season Tent
June 24, 2009
If you click on add to cart and proceed to checkout it should show you how much shipping will be when you enter your shipping address. I put in a generic address (113 king st, melbourne, 3000) and it shipping was about $175. It may vary a little when you put your actual address in.

Lafuma Naia 50 Backpack - 3050cu in - Women's
June 24, 2009
Normally you could purchase from the site, but it says "permanently out of stock" above so backcountry has sold out of this model and is not restocking. I checked a bunch of other sites and looks like everywhere is sold out of this model.

Red Impact Vest - Men's
June 20, 2009
It looks like a vest on both sides. Black on front and back, and white on the sides. You access the pads from the inside so they're covered by fabric on the outside. The outline of the pads can kind of be seen but it's pretty inconspicuous. You can wear the vest in the bar after riding and not look like you're dressed for halloween. I'll post a picture of the back.

Exped ComfortFoam Mat
June 20, 2009
I have a synmat 7. It has the same dimensions. When folded into thirds and rolled up it packs down to about 8.5" tall x 4.5" in diameter. Here's a link to expeds spec page on the comfortfoam mat. Hope this helps.
