CRKT Kommer Full Throttle Knife

CRKT Kommer Full Throttle Knife

Rating for this product: 4 August 22, 2008

Like "gray&stingy" (previous review), this knife has become my everyday blade. Excellent build quality, gorgeous design and a satisfying heft won me over pretty quickly. The AUS8 blade maintains excellent sharpness and is a very useful shape. The assisted open is gives a feeling of purpose as the blade sniks into the locked position. So far, I haven't had an issue with opening/closing one-handed, but there is a bit of a trick to it. Although I don't usually do "flashy", the gold colored hardware bits on the knife are pretty cool looking. Far and away, though, the brass counterweight on the back of the handle looks really sharp, with it's custom looking file mark pattern. All in all, very happy with this knife and expect many years of solid use from it. Chalk up another big plus for CRKT.

Surprisingly Warm For Its Weight...

Big Agnes Buffalo Park Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Synthetic

Big Agnes Buffalo Park Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 4 August 19, 2008

Recently bought the Big Agnes Buffalo Park bag for a two week trip into the Canadian Rockies and Western US. Already owned a BA insulated air mattress and got the Buffalo Park as the built in pad pocket makes such great sense.

Although the Buffalo Park bag does not loft nearly as much as another 40 degree bag I own, it is quite warm in temps down to 32 degrees. Part of that may be down to the "comfort" factor associated with the cotton blend lining in the bag. At 6'2", with a 48inch chest, the amount of space is downright luxurious and the attached pillow pocket a welcome addition. Having the sleeping pad as "part" of the bag is really great - wish I would have done this much sooner.

As for any negatives, there are few. On the "niggles" list, the zipper on my bag does not function as smoothly as the Marmot and TNF bags we own. I would also wish the cotton blend liner was a higher thread count - it's rather coarse and therefore "grabs" whatever you're sleeping in whenever you rollover or move about. Not a big deal, but would have added to the perceived value and comfort in my opinion. Finally, although the Backcountry write-up states you get both a stuff and a storage sack with the bag, it comes with just a stuff sack. Again, not a big deal, but not up to the expectation set.

All in all, I'm pleased with this purchase and would recommend the Buffalo Park bag. Chalk up another in the "plus" column for Big Agnes.

More Good "Goods" From Marmot

Marmot Adamant Jacket - Men's

Marmot Adamant Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 8, 2004

Picked up the Adamant jacket recently to replace an old TNF Denali -- what a difference! The wind resistance has been fantastic. Given it's sleeker profile, it also layers under my shell with less "bunching" than the Denali. Fit and comfort are excellent -- and it looks good too. Overall, a warmer, more weather resistant jacket and worth what I paid for it (20% off list).
