Mountain Hardwear Transition Softshell Jacket - Men's

November 1, 2009

I think this jacket would be great for what you describe. The material is much thinner than I expected but is surprisingly warm. I have worn it was a mid layer under a shell when skiing and as a light jacket pretty much all the time. Running, mountain biking, spring skiing, it's sweet. It is my go to jacket and pretty much wear it 3 or 4 days a week.

Giro G10 MX Helmet

Giro G10 MX Helmet

Rating for this product: 4 November 1, 2009

This is a pretty dope helmet. I guess there is a reason why the design hasn't changed much in a few years (except colors/graphics). It fits my noggin just right, is light weight, breathes well, and looks pretty damn good too.

Visor is a little bigger than I would prefer, but it really does come in handy at times blocking sun and misc. debris from hitting your face/gogs. I would def. recommend to a friend.

Arc'teryx Spotter Pant - Men's

Arc'teryx Spotter Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 1, 2009

I LOVE these pants. For some reason Arc. tops don't fit me well but their pants & shorts fit perfect. These pants are super comfortable w/ the articulated knees and soft chamois lined waist. Doesn't matter if you're hiking, doing yard work, or hangin around town. You won't be disappointed w/ these sweet pants.

Asolo Power Matic 200 GV Backpacking Boot - Men's

Asolo Power Matic 200 GV Backpacking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 1, 2009

Awesome boots! These are the first pair of Asolo boots I have owned and I am now a true believer... Right out of the box they fit great; no blisters or hot spots at all. Purchased them primarily for spring/fall sloppy hikes which with gore-tex, makes these boots perfect. Def. plan on having these boots for many more seasons and when the time comes to replace, I have a feeling it will be another pair of Asolo's.

Montrail Hardrock '09 Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Montrail Hardrock '09 Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 1, 2009

These shoes are great. I bought them as a replacement to some salomon xt wings (which the built in kevlar lace broke) and I couldn't be happier. I wear them for trail runs, day hikes, as well as just kickin it. They look great, the toe cap is super durable, and they fit great.

The blade seems small when compared with other shovels but don't let that fool you. This shovel rocks. Awesome design, light, easy to use.

Backcountry Access Tracker DTS Beacon

Backcountry Access Tracker DTS Beacon

Rating for this product: 5 October 31, 2009

There is a reason this is the de-facto beacon. It's intuitive, easy to use and just works.

At the same time, make sure you practice using it. It might seem like a piece of cake to find you buddies beacon in your back yard but when you in the heat of the moment and your adrenaline is pumping, the practice will pay off (and save someones life). Learn to use it well and you won't be disappointed in this beacon.

Arc'teryx Sidewinder AR Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Sidewinder AR Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 October 31, 2009

I've got to agree w/ Brice on this one. I just could not get the thing to fit right. It is big, which is not an Arcteryx trademark for sure. Even w/ a base layer, mid layer, and puffy down, this jacket was still sloppy. There's nothing I hate more than while flying down the hill and your jacket is flapping in wind. Don't get me wrong, I don't want it tight but I want to be able to fill it up if I want. I just couldn't fill this jacket up. Ended up selling on ebay at the end of the season...

Line Prophet 100 Ski

Line Prophet 100 Ski

Rating for this product: 5 October 31, 2009

186 prophet 100's mounted w/ dukes; bullet proof setup. I literally skied this setup virtually everyday last year. Great edge hold on piste, great float off. At the same time, I think you get out of them what you put in. They aren't light (esp. w/ dukes) but you can absolutely charge. Stoked to ride this setup again for another season.

Awesome

Backcountry.com Merino Bliss Lightweight Long Underwear Top - Men's

Backcountry.com Merino Bliss Lightweight Long Underwear Top - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 31, 2009

This is hands down my favorite shirt. It's slim, next-to-skin style but not constricting. Super comfortable, super stretchy, super warm. I wear it for everything from a base layer when going out in the cold, to a top in the fall/spring/cool summer nights.

I like it so much, I bought one in both colors!

Backcountry.com Merino Bliss Lightweight Long Underwear Top - Men's

October 31, 2009

I think it depends on how tight you want it. I'm 6'2", 195 and the Large is awesome but it's definitely 'next-to-skin' in the chest/shoulders/arms; the waist is a little looser. Great thing about these is that they are fairly long too.

Smith 2008 Hustle Helmet

Smith 2008 Hustle Helmet

Rating for this product: 4 February 24, 2009

This is a pretty nice helmet. Warm and very light. Fits my anon gogs just fine. Only complaint is that it is pretty wide. I felt like a bobble head out the first few times but got used to it. Now it's normal and I'm diggin it.

Just OK

DAKINE Cobra Glove - Men's

DAKINE Cobra Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 February 24, 2009

These gloves are just OK. Fit is great, fairly low-profile, very usable, but just not that warm. Used them for a trip to SW Montana where temps were around 5-10 and my hands just wouldn't stay warm. Ended up using my ancient, destroyed Burton mits. Over 15/20 degrees, these are fine but colder than that, you'll want something else.
