Broke after second use

MSR Overland Carbon Trekking Pole

MSR Overland Carbon Trekking Pole

Rating for this product: 3 July 7, 2009

these are my first pair of trekking poles, first time i used them i could tell a noticeable difference in my trekking capabilities. However, the second time i used this product, one of the poles became stuck in river bed, and when i tried to remove it, it snapped in two. i was very surprised as i have used many MSR products in the past ranging from tents, stoves, and water treatment in which each product was very well made and if necessary capable of more than the average wear and tear. the good news is when i returned home i informed backcountry( who i bought the poles from) and they sent me a new pair free of charge. i have yet to test the new pair however i think the first pair breaking was due to a fluke

Makes me Happy

Patagonia Capilene 3 Zip-Neck - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Patagonia Capilene 3 Zip-Neck - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 6, 2009

This is one of the most comfortable pieces of clothing i own. The C 3 allows great warmth and protection from cold environments. Recently on a backpacking trip i used as a mid-layer/outer - layer over Capilene 1 T, this was a good combo which served to protect me from the cold but also allowed me to move freely with my pack without getting overheated. I have also worn the "C 3" on colder snowy ventures were once again as a base-layer combo with C 1 crew, Arc'teryx gamma Ar soft-shell jacket, and Theta hard shell it worked great to keep me warm and happy. I have on occasion found the "C 3" to be versatile enough to be worn out around town and on Campus ( Im in college ), i have received several complements on both the way it fits my body and feels. Only complaint is that it will get very stinky after prolonged physical activity. all around good buy will most likely purchase another.

MSR and light Wait

MSR Pocket Rocket Stove

MSR Pocket Rocket Stove

Rating for this product: 5 February 4, 2009

First off in my experience MSR is by far one of the most trust worthy brands next to Arcteryx on the Market. secondly the Pocket Rocket is awesome. first bought a few years ago to replace a older stove, the rocket is easy to use and great for light wait weekend or 3 to 4 day use. would avoid exposing to allot of wind while cooking (i have had to re light a few times). the Plastic casing makes for secure storage that takes virtually no room in lid pocket of pack. cleaning product is also a breeze. over all small, light wait, and trusty stove to take anywhere

Compact

Brunton Flex Canister Stove

Brunton Flex Canister Stove

Rating for this product: 3 February 4, 2009

overall Good product i like the way it packs along with ib cook-set makes for more room in pack and stove protection. however after the second us while lighting it flames began to rise up from bottom of flex and top of fuel canister. thankfully i was also carrying a MSR Pocket Rocket so all was good. when i returned i home i cleaned my flex and reattempted lighting and it worked fine however, sadly on my next trip same thing as before happened again but bigger flame haven't used Flex since. However, noticing that the flex in 2007 won the Outside gear of the year award i blame my miss fortune on just one rotten egg in the cart or my own ignorance, whose to say

Arc'teryx is the best

Arc'teryx Bora 80 Backpack - 4390-5000cu in

Arc'teryx Bora 80 Backpack - 4390-5000cu in

Rating for this product: 5 January 20, 2009

this is by Far one of the most comfortable packs i have ever owned, i purchased it over a year ago and i have already used it on five backcountry trips. while on the AT this past summer we experienced a large thunderstorm while on the trail and the bora held up great. the whole pack is not water proof but the sleeping bag compartment is and as for the rest of my stuff it actually stayed pretty dry considering the circumstances. overall awesome pack very tuff and i think you could pack all your gear and still have room for two kitchen sinks

the Mesh Version

MSR Hubba Hubba HP Tent 2-Person 3-Season

MSR Hubba Hubba HP Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 January 16, 2009

i just retired my MSR Hubba Hubba after years of hard usage. all around a good tent its been with me on trips ranging from the AT to a island in the middle of the ocean. its more roomy than most two person tents i have slept in, i was even able to fit three on occasion though my friend in the middle felt a little awkward. while on the AT we experienced a harsh thunder storm with heavy rain and strong wind for over what felt like the whole night. the tent held up very well with only a little drop of water on my forehead towards the end. the first thing to mess up on this tent was one of the poles however with the help of duck-tape it managed to last two more trips before snapping. the HP looks awesome and i would like to buy it however i do feel MSR tends to over price. the only other negative i could think of is when packing i would usually not be able to pack the poles along with the tent in the stuff sack however, i believe the HP has fixed this problem by replacing most of the mesh with a synthetic fabric.

Best Soft-shell

Arc'teryx Gamma AR Softshell Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Gamma AR Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2009

this jacket is awesome i just received it for christmas and i have already taken it backpacking in the smoky mountains. the temperature stayed around high teens to mid twenties. i kept the jacket on the entire time with out having to remove it for getting over heated or sweetie while hiking. i was exposed on the side of a mountain for most of the trip and the Gamma did a awesome job of keeping the wind from getting to me. as for casual wear i a have also found this jacket great for going out around town or wearing on campus if you are a student. Arcteryx in General is awesome and i would suggest this jacket for any one!!!

Mountain Khakis Original Mountain Pant - Men's

Mountain Khakis Original Mountain Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2009

one of the most comfortable pair of pants i own. good to wear casually or out in the woods. most people prefer not to hike in cotton however, i have found there to be no problem, these pants are very durable and pretty light wait in my opinion. i also find them to be a good winter hiking pant for around Georgia,Alabama,Tennessee. i gave my dad a pair for Christmas to use while working on the farm or going to the hunting lease. these pants are also comfortable and look good to wear around town.

perfect for light wait Backpacking

The North Face Orion Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Climashield Neo

The North Face Orion Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Climashield Neo

Rating for this product: 4 January 16, 2009

i hate having a over Bulky pack due to extra wait i don't need, which makes this bag in my opinion ideal for light wait backpacking in cold temperatures. holding my down sleeping bag in on arm and the Climashield Orion in the other there was no comparison to the wait difference. the new material TNF and Climashield put into this bag makes it stuff smaller tighter and much lighter than any down. in fact looking at it (when in stuff sack) next to my Nalgene there isn't that big of a difference. the only complaint i have is that when it does reach twenty or below you might want to cuddle up with a friend because it gets a little chilly. despite that this is still a overall top of the line sleeping bag and is perfect for fall and early-late winter trips around the Appalachian.

Arc'teryx Gamma AR Pant - Men's

Arc'teryx Gamma AR Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2009

Make sure you watch the size, usually in this type of pant i would wear around a medium, however once ordering, receiving, and trying on this pair of pants i found them to be exceedingly tight. but after sending them back and getting a large the problem was solved. all in all good pair of pants wind resistant and warm-ventilated well enough to hike in around 20 to 40 degree F, NOT Waterproof just resistant there is a Dif
