Stoic WPF Compression Sack

August 22, 2011

I had this bag inflated with a bunch of extra air and strapped down tight. Even with the strap tension on it for a whole morning, it never lost any air.

Stohlquist Trekker Life Jacket

September 7, 2011

There is a regular 4-way tab on the back of the left shoulder. I have no idea why it's located there but it seems like you could still put a small knife on it without it getting in the way too much.

Eureka Spitfire 2 Tent: 2-Person 3-Season

August 22, 2011

Because this tent is not free-standing, it relies very heavily on the two end stakes to keep from collapsing inward.
I think the pole structure seems sturdy enough to handle severe winds if you could get it staked/anchored well, so I guess it depends on what your typical rough terrain looks like. I've had to bury rocks on my stakes several times while in loose soil to get everything secured. Once secure, it does handle wind without much shuddering/flapping due to the well designed shape.
Buying some different stakes would probably be a must for you - the included stakes are 6" long and basically just 1/8" wire. Something with more bite would be helpful, like a MSR V-shaped aluminum stake etc.

Great shell, always goes with me.

Outdoor Research Revel Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 22, 2011

Yet another OR product that I find fantastic. It's light, packs tiny, actually breathes, has a great cut. I like that the sleeves are long enough and it works great for cycling due to extra length along the back. Stays comfortable even when putting out a big effort.
I'm 6'3"/180lb and wear a medium Revel. My chest measures about 39" and the OR size chart has medium at 40". It's a nice slim fit on me but I can still fit a thick fleece or similar underneath it.

Stohlquist Cruiser Life Jacket - Women's

August 22, 2011

The description paragraph on the Stohlquist site seems to imply ocean kayaking is intended. http://www.stohlquist.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=33&Itemid=71#4

The standard Coast-Guard approval on this vest is a type-III.

Seems to work well

Stoic WPF Compression Sack

Stoic WPF Compression Sack

Rating for this product: 5 March 4, 2011

This sack looks to be made well and is extremely easy to get sealed. The fabric portion looks very abrasion resistant, but I'm not sure how long the clear plastic portion will hold up over time (this is the part which gets rolled). So far so good though.

--Edit 08/22/2011
I have a small size WPF sack that I've been using for a while now and there is no longer any concern about the durability of the clear plastic, it's holding up great. I've changed the rating to five stars because they are a piece of gear that just works. I've since bought a couple more larger ones as well.

These boxers continue to impress - great materials, great fit, great performance. Wicking works well and the material never feels abrasive. Almost have my whole wardrobe switched out and threw everything else away.

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boxer Brief - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 21, 2011

It's been a while since I purchased my first pair of these and the original shows no signs of wearing out any time soon. I've gradually been buying more in order to replace my entire underwear supply.

Couldn't be more pleased with these boxers! Give them a try!

DAKINE Amp 12L Hydration Pack - 700cu in

DAKINE Amp 12L Hydration Pack - 700cu in

Rating for this product: 4 September 24, 2010

This is a fantastic deal if you get one of the colors that is roughly half price. Overall, it is well made. No problems with zippers or seams coming apart. It does a good job of remaining comfortable while fully loaded (tools + water). Some straps on the outside for attaching a rolled-up coat etc. would be nice, otherwise it's not lacking on features.

Simply put: Everything else now seems shockingly terrible in comparison to these. Give a pair a try, you'll never want to go back.

Really great socks!

Backcountry.com Merino Hiking Sock - 3-Pack

Backcountry.com Merino Hiking Sock - 3-Pack

Rating for this product: 5 September 24, 2010

These appear very well made and are very comfortable with the use of different material thicknesses. As other have mentioned, the price can't be beat. I'll be buying more of these for sure.

One note: I've been used to thinking of cycling socks as "lightweight" all summer so I found these to be thicker than I would have expected for "midweight", but that's not a negative.
