hey dub5335996,
haven't skied the other skis that you are asking about but the Rocker 2 is an extremely versatile ski that does it all. I'd agree with Jamie on the length suggestion as the ski is more maneuverable at the 184cm if you want it for every option from tight couloirs and trees, to big faces and long powder runs, to ripping groomers and bumps. For Alaska deep pow, the 192 might be the option but otherwise go smaller. Hope that helps!

Hey Jen, I'd agree with Drewski, the 170s might be the right fit for you. The 184 would be too big..the 180 might be tougher if you ski it on non-pow days. I am 5'8 and 140 and can only manage the 184 on big snow days. For agility, fun, and all terrain usage I would probably go with the 170 unless you think you really want more ski for speed and power on the deep days. It is an awesome ski with solid performance in varying conditions. It carves and it floats. Hope that helps!

Hey Ple, agreed with Nick. Coming in from the other side, I am 5'8 and just under 140 and I ski the 184 on big days and it is just about perfect. You're going to want to go with the longer ski. Keeping in mind the Rocker tip/tail, the ski doesn't ski at 192 and with your goals for the ski, bigger is better. Hope that helps! kim

Hey Bruce, haven't skied the 4Frnt CRJ but the Czar is a really fun ski for pow and deep days. It has excellent flotation and great drive in any condition from deeper snow to more challenging crud..making variations of snowy days really fun. It is a dependable and stable ski that has lots of power. 174 would seem like a good fit for you. hope that helps!

Hey Peddyslate, yes, the 182s would handle great for you. I have a few male friends at over 6 feet in Telluride that are advanced to expert who ski the 182 czar that love that length for its maneuverability without sacraficing power. They will not be squirrely. The ski needs to be driven but will respond great for you in that length. Hope that helps!

Hi there lw, I'm a 5'8 140lb ex-racer and I ski the 174. That is the perfect size for me. Guessing by the stats, you would probably be better off with the 166, even with the rocker feature. They are an awesomely powerful ski and very versatile..my recommnedation would be to go shorter, especially for the backcountry. I ski mine in both the frontcountry and backcountry- love em. Hope that helps!

April 13, 2010
My suggestion would be the 182. Due to the tip rocker, and taking into consideration your height/weight and progression goals, the longer ski dimension would probably work best for you. I think you'll find the 174 a bit short on snow days. hope that helps..

hey Fred- i've mounted fritschis on them and they ski great with that binding- really love the shogun in the backcountry and off-piste. With the slight rocker, wood core, and good side cut, they handle all kinds of conditions effortlessly. Have a pair of dynafits that I am going to switch out soon on these and think it will ski even better with the closer/lower mount.

hey Lauren, I ski the 173 and I am 5'8, medium build, expert skier. They are a perfect fit for me..seem like it would be the best fit for you too. This length handles agility and speed really well for our height/size category as women.

The Shogun would be a perfect fit for you- it is an extremely versatile all-mountain/all-conditions ski that you can take from groomers to bumps to deep powder and it will perform reliabley and agressively. It's got the beautiful combination of reverse camber, wood core, and side cut to create a high performance all terrain ski. You most likely will want to go with the 191 with your height/weight/ ski level, but for quicker response/agility, the 182 could possibly work..

Depends on what type of skier you are and what conditions you prefer to ski...the Salomon Shogun is an amazingly versatile ski and highly recommended for an all-mountain (groomers, powder, bumps) as well as big mountain skier. The Czar is more of a high performance deeper snow specific ski then an agility ski. With your height, and the conditions the Czar performs best in, the 191 would be a better bet.

hey JB- haven't skied the other 2 products, but the Geisha is an amazing all around versatile ski and performs well in varying conditions. You will love the reverse camber for its stability, speed and flotation in the powder, as well as its basalt & bamboo construction that provides good absorption in the bumps, and all with a nice side cut for groomers and hard pack. This would be great fit for you for high performance and reliability as a patroller on skis on mixed condition days.

This Salomon binding would be a great fit for you and your needs. If you are looking at touring in the backcountry, and need the flexibility of a free heel mechanism, then another binding would be better. But, if you are looking to lock it down with a light, safe, strong/sturdy and reliable binding- the Salomon Z12 is a great choice.

The 191 would probably be better for your height/weight for speed and powder, that said, depending on how aggressive a skier you are and if you prefer smaller radius turns to larger radius turns, and are a more agile/quick response skier vs. big mtn skier/big arcing, then the 182 might work well for you.

Sounds like the 173 would be a better fit for you for performance and agility. Since the Shogun's woodcore (and 101 width underfoot) inherently creates great flotation and stability, you might do better with the slightly shorter shogun for the rebound and edge transfer, giving you more versatility and flexibility in your on and off piste adventures.

The ski has a lot of snap, and is highly responsive- bamboo fibers in the wood core allow for absorbtion and pop. With some sidecut and a transitional tail, it edges well and maneuvers/responds quickly, & agressively in the bumps.

This is a solid ski that will work great in versatile endeavors- on the resort, backcountry, hucking, tricks etc. The big mtn guys love this ski and so for your height/weight it should be just fine. It is considered an all-mountain freeride, and some folks love the twin tip in the backcountry. It performs well on hard pack as well as in flotation and glide through powder. In the right length, this ski should be a great fit for your diverse needs.

Fill is measured in cubic inches per ounce. So higher number of cubic inches of loft means that for the same weight, much more air is trapped and the jacket is a lot warmer. More warmth for the weight, plus higher fill compresses more, hence the price difference. The higher number means more finely lofted feather which produces many more smaller air pockets in the down and increases the volume while maintaining the same density (weight). Also it is stated that as long as it retains its loft, it works for every day usage. The higher down numbers (+800) matter most for expedition usage.

No- it is one size fits all. I have a smaller head, so I often have to throw hats in the dryer to shrink to fit. This hat comes slightly larger in order to accomodate large to small. Now that it's shrunk, it fits great and also maintained it's color and shape through a lot of heat time in the dryer.

The Shogun should suit your needs perfectly. It is a much beefier ski then the Fury, and a step up in width underfoot from the Gun/Sandstorm. With the rockered tip, it has great flotation for powder and crud. If you're looking for a stable, fast, floater, the Shogun should probably suit you better then the Fury- especially with your height, weight, level of skiing etc.

hi there, my best answer would be that I am an exact medium in all their jackets, and I weigh in at 138 and am 5'8. The length of sleeves, waist and cut are all perfect for me at the medium. You may actually be better in a SMALL due to your build, though your height would suggest a medium.

Think the 181 is a better bet for you on this ski...I am 5'8, 138 lbs, and ski tested the 174 and that was the right size for me. If you are planning to ski powder and tour as well, the longer length would also definitely be the better fit.

This sizing has to do with volume and not sizing- the volume of the interior of the pack- the M is 35L and the L is 46L. But for TNF packs in general, you are probably a large.

If the front side of the skins are still in good shape, then you should reglue the skins. You can buy glue sets, and then follow the instructions from there. It can be a time/labor intensive endeavor so many people just opt to buy a new pair. When glueing, be sure to remove all the old glue first- as per the directions.

Safe bet would be to go bigger, and then shrink it in the hot wash/dryer cycle. Depending on how you size out on one size fits all hats, perhaps go a bit larger from there and then shrink accordingly.

there are different schools of thought on this but you can do it with climbing tape or can mark it with a fabric marker- but keep in mind rope stretch and other events that could change the exact markings. If you do mark it, keep checking it as time goes by, giving some margin for error/adjustment..

Depends on your usage. It is plenty sturdy for short rappels but not meant for serious climbing endeavors or true 5.6/7and up leading. So, I've used it for rappels on ridge climbs, rappels on ski mountaineering routes etc. It is not suitable for activities where you will be weighting the harness for long periods of time and adding a lot of extra load and stress to it.

I have the means Backcountry socks (item # BCC0143) and the packaging recommended me to get a large/X-Large and I went with the Small/Medium's and was glad I did. Moral of the story is size down a bit, there's some stretch to these babies, I'd get the Small/Medium's. I have an 8.5 womens foot and got the small/medium and they fit great. That size should work for you as well with a 9 foot. A ladies 10 should probably go the next size up.

The jacket fits pretty true to size with a few lighter layers underneath. If you wanted to fit a light down, it would probably work but could be a bit tight in movement depending on where you fit on the scale of your size- whether you're a small small or larger medium etc. If you fall on the smaller end within your size category, it should work well. Hope that helps.

Yes. It also runs big-- so I just ran it through the washer and dryer about five times and it is now slowly shrinking. I've given it a lot of abuse and it has maintained it's integrity in color and fabric. So, if you don't need to shrink it, just a light wash will be just fine for it.

I'd consider this to be a "lightweight" layer that adjusts well to varying temperatures. The fabric is smooth and thin, but with the high neck zip as well as the thumb hole options, there is added warmth and coverage. Because it is a lighter layer, it can also be worn well under or over other layers as well..but stands well on its on on a cool fall day activity. hope that helps..
