Denali Jacket

The North Face Denali Fleece Jacket - Men's

The North Face Denali Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 27, 2009

Still have an older Denali Jacket ~5yrs old or so.
Recently bought the newer hooded version. Same styling but add a hood and the quality/feel of the fleece was also updated.

Still very pricey!! Buy it when it's on sale ONLY!!

It's "adequate" in that is warm but NOT when it's windy! The wind will cut through the jacket and you'll literally freeze!

The purpose of the jacket is insulation so it's best when used with either a shell jacket or under an insulated jacket!

Fleece is very bulky when compared other 300-weight fleece jackets.
It's not "as warm" as other jackets that are made with Windpro or Windblocker fleece materials as those jackets use thinner fleece with a laminating layer to block out the wind, which makes those jackets WARMER!!

The NTF Denali jacket has become too "stylish" esp. amongst teens and college kids! The company is now owned by Vanity Fair!!

There are other jackets available for less that'll block out the wind and keep your warm.

Overall, it's still a good fleece jacket but not when the temps drop below freezing and/or when it's windy!

The North Face Nuptse Mitten

Rating for this product: 4 January 26, 2009

Very warm mittens but still very pricey! Bought a pair last year or two ago and it has not changed in styling!

It's not that water resistant so spray Scotchguard on the back and wipe some leather sealant on the front for better water protection!

It's very bulky though so don't expect much dexterity.
If you do, then buy some gloves instead!

Is the size true to size or need to size up?Different people at various online Q&A are stating one thing or another.I wear Mens size 11 1/2 which would mean Lge but some people state XL.Which is correct? Don't want it TOO roomy or else it won't fit properly! Thanks!

The North Face Pamir Windstopper Glove

January 23, 2009

Live in the Boston area where it's very windy and very cold in the winter. These gloves are terrific as they block out the winds even when temps drop below freezing! But once the temp goes down to the teens to near zero Celsius, the warmth is diminished. For the most part, these gloves will keep you warm.Mind you... the gloves are not waterproof so when it gets wet (i.e. slush conditions), the wind effectiveness is reduced.Remember to keep the gloves DRY and Clean! It's really pricey but worth it (for a TNF product). IMHO, the only competitor would be Marmot's Windstopper gloves (which I also own) which is a bit snugger than these for relatively the same price but similar quality!

The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's

January 7, 2009

I own a large nuptuse north face that is a 2006 and when I take out the inside layer of my small 2003 Columbia 3-in-1 ski jacket, the northface zips in perfectly, I was dumbfounded when I first discovered this cross brand union and it works amazingly for skiing when you need that extra layer of warmth, it does make me look a little on the chunky side, but ill sacrifice looks for warmth if I'm frozen. The choice is all yours. Any brand shell jacket will work but get at least the same size or up 1 or 2 sizes for the shell. If you want to use the zip in feature, then consider the TNF shells like the Mt. Light jacket.

Per the factory's tech's specs, Recommended Use: Camping, casual, keeping warm in cold weather.Down jackets are NOT meant for skiing as you'll heat up quickly!! It's best to layer using fleece and a shell for skiing!

Each manufacturer changes the colors every season, whether to make the colors bright or duller, depending on how they think the style should be.This year, 2008-2009, the colors are more "muted" (i.e. dull) than bright, as it was in previous year's models.

Patagonia Micro Puff Hooded Jacket - Men's

January 7, 2009

You'll need to check the measurements in the sizing chart.Generally, someone who's 6ft and of "average" build would fit a large and XL for a bit more room. There are "tall" sizes when it comes to Patagonia outerwear!

Patagonia Micro Puff Hooded Jacket - Men's

January 7, 2009

It's true to size so do NOT size UP unless you like it roomy. It's slightly roomier around the waist to chest but that's expected since most people wear a sweater or jacket underneath for insulation. It really depends if the person likes a bulky fit or a slim fit. Best thing to do is try it on at a nearby store, if available.

Patagonia Storm Jacket - Men's

January 7, 2009

That kind of depends on what you are looking for in a jacket -The most waterproof material will be Goretex or eVent, along with the most breatheable. As far as do you want the lightest? There is goretex paclite that will get you a super light jacket under 1 lbs. Then there are heavier jackets that are thicker/stronger and will be goretex or eVent meant for more use than just keeping you dry. Look at Arcteryx Alpha AR, Westcomb Mirage, Arcteryx Alpha SL to see a few differences. My favorite choice is eVent and Westcombs jackets are amazing. Most people would say "TNF mt. light jacket" but it's more trendy than technical now! The Storm jacket is still a waterproof jacket that can take the abuse of skiing and outdoor winter activities while looking great from around-town use.

The North Face Mountain Light Jacket - Men's

January 7, 2009

I have this jacket and it is TNF fleece zip in compat. Just make sure zip in is same size as the shell. I use a Denali vest perfectly and if I need more warmth I have a Mountain Hardwear Link jacket, but doesn't zip in. I didn't want the 300 wt fleece sleeves for bulk reasons, but if you want warmth.... that would do it!Just look for the TNF brands that have the zip-in feature. You can zip in the Denali jacket/vest and the Nuptse jacket/vest. It's true to size so use either the same or smaller size for the zip-in.Also, you do not to zip in the underlying layer like a fleece jacket/vest but just wear it underneath the shell!

Only if the other jacket is an outer shell designed for such purposes. Look for a TNF shell that includes a zip-in feature.Otherwise, you'll find this to be too thick and bulky to serve as a liner. It's not its designed purpose!

TNF Hooded Denali Mens Jacket

The North Face Denali Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

The North Face Denali Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 January 7, 2009

Bought the Men's Lge. Cardinal Red TNF Denali Hoodie as a replacement to my older Denali Jacket with a discount. Otherwise, it's relatively still too expensive! Other companies make similar, if not better, fleece jackets (though not with a hood) for a whole lot less!

Listed as a 300-weight (heavyweight) fleece but feels like a 200-weight (midweight) fleece.

It's bulky and somewhat tight when using with a shell. Barely able to use a thin Polartec 100 pullover underneath for additional warmth as the jacket is basically true to size. If you want roominess, then order 1 size up but remember that it's BULKY so fitting it underneath a jacket may be a hassle if it's TOO roomy!

Indoors... it's warm but bulky and also stylish with the hood!

Outdoors... it'll depend on the weather and/or temperature! For something that's bulky, it lets the wind pass right through it so it's NOT warm on windy (cold) days!! Only the nylon-covered portions provide warmth against the wind, which doesn't help much!

The hood is a good and new feature which helps with the cold. Many people, like myself, forget to bring a winter cap/hat so a hood comes in handy!

The jacket IS OVERPRICED but expected of TNF products! Other makers (i.e. Eddie Bauer, LLBean, etc..) makes a better jacket using WindPro fleece fabric that does provide wind protection and warmth at a much lower price!!

Somewhat disappointed about the quality/feel of the fabric. It should be warmer but it's not.
May not consider another TNF jacket for another few years and will look for WindPro jackets instead.

In New England, it's not just cold, it's windy!
Must have a jacket to block out the wind, which this Hooded Denali Jacket does NOT do! At least it's relatively warm when worn underneath a shell or down jacket but not by itself!

Meant for:
- Cold weather - Yes, but not <35 degrees Fahrenheit. It's not that warm!
- Windy weather - NO, MUST wear a shell/jacket on top to block out wind!

The North Face Denali Hooded Fleece Jacket

The North Face Denali Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

The North Face Denali Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 7, 2009

This is a 300 heavyweight fleece but feels like a 200 midweight fleece. Somewhat warm yet bulky jacket.

This fleece jacket will NOT block out the wind so a shell or insulated jacket MUST be worn on top of this fleece for warmth and to block out the wind!

Problem is... it's BULKY so it'll feel tight with a shell!

Used with both TNF and Patagonia waterproof shell jackets and it IS bulky!

It's fashionable mainly due to the hood which is can not be detached but provides warmth and blocks out wind. Comes in very handy since many people, like myself, forget to bring a fleece hat/cap along.

Bought this as a replacement to my other TNF fleece jackets that I own.

It's still PRICEY, which is typical of ALL TNF products!

Will consider another brand's fleece that has the WindPro fleece (blocks out wind) next time at a lower price!

Patagonia Micro Puff Hooded Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 7, 2009

Have a older model ~3-5 years but it has roughly the same material just looks different!

It's thin but more true to size so do NOT size up unless you like it roomy. For a thin jacket, it's really warm especially if you layer correctly with a nice warm fleece jacket!

It blocks the wind well and it's water resistant not water proof due to the slick nylon shell. Not sure if this version's hand pockets are insulted but the older version is NOT so leave gloves in the pockets!

It's rather PRICEY, but that's usually the case with Patagonia products!

The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket

The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 7, 2009

Very warm jacket though it could've been better with a slightly insulated stowaway hood and a fleece-lined neck warmer.

The hand-warmer pockets aren't lined but it behind an insulated section so hands do keep warm, to an extent. Wear gloves!

It has a stow-away pocket on the inner left size and would have been better with a second pocket on the inner right side!

It's still PRICEY, but that' typical of ALL TNF clothing!

Very few other jackets come close (i.e. Patagonia's down jackets)!
