Bio:
You can also add Saltwater/Freshwater Fisherman and frequent Traveler to that list!!! I am fortunate to have a job that allows me to travel on a whim , having the opportunity to enjoy Hiking, biking and fishing around the world. I am an avid outdoorsman trapped in a flat suburban hell but I dont let it limit my passions. Like many of you, I use the gear I review and value the input of others who do the same. Well, its time to get outside. Seeeeeeya!!!

Columbia Thunderstorm II Pant - Men's
February 11, 2011
Buy them! their light weight, durable and breathe well! I have the hail tech as well and use them for both outdoors and work here in FL. Great wind breakers! I wear them with both shorts and pants in all temps. Quick on and off and I have yet to tear them, even putting them on over boots. Their not cheap or flimsy, have pass through pockets and adjust at the ankle. I will never waste my money on frog togs, ponchos or just plain old crappy gear to save weight and sacrafice comfort. These and the Columbia light/fast shell are my primary rain system on all trips. Both are light and packable. I have a pic of them in action in my review of the hail tech's, Another of my best buys!!!

I have the large, and I am slim but tall 5'11 @150lbs. fit is good with enough space to wear additional clothing. Sleeves were perfect for my long arms where I usually run into problems with fit. It was pretty true to size for me. Foutunatly I was able to try it on at another retailer first. Very happy!!!

Katadyn Hiker Pro Water Microfilter
February 8, 2011
Assuming you follow the instructions for use and keep the unit serviced and the filters clean, you can avoid the tabs, unless the water source is really quetionable! Personaly, I still carry the tabs as backup in the event of a pump failure or in the event I mis-place a part in the backcountry.__ IT HAPPENS!!! I have put a lot of water through mine on many backcountry trips and also some trips in civilized countries without fail or tabs. It works!!!

Columbia Hail Tech Rain Pant - Men's
February 8, 2011
Yes, they are. I wear them at work constantly over both slacks and shorts and based on your waist size they can cover any utility items on your belt as well. Great windbreaker when you are wearing shorts and wished you had a pair of slacks!!! In this pic, I am wearing them along with the Columbia light shell jacket on a fishing trip this past Nov. Temps were in the twentys two hours off the coast of FL and the seas were above twenty Feet.I am wearing only jeans and a sweatshirt/Tee shirt underneath and after an eight hour trip on the rail,I am pretty dry in this shot! Their great!!!

Thule Low Rider Bike Mount
February 8, 2011
LOL!!!...Before I bought mine I was wondering the same thing....Lol! I have a Honda Oddysee with a Thule Rack on top and was looking for a cheap fix! You could probably get away with that but I couldnt find a U bolt with the proper spacing for the holes. You may have to use somewhat of a spacer to take up the slack In the width of the rail bar. Bottomline, I wound up mounting it in the bed of my tundra, as intended, Because the wife took my drill away when I started measuring the top of her van for a roof mount!!!....Women!

The pandora has one main zip compartment and a smaller zip compartment on front. The main compartment has no dividers or pockets. The front zip has a key fob and loops for pens. On each side are two smaller zip pockets for change headphones and the like. I have a seperate cellphone pouch I attach to the TNF loops on the shoulder straps to keep my phone visible and ready to answer. For a woman, its great in lieu of a purse for essentials.

The North Face Condor Triclimate Jacket - Men's

Perhaps, they have substituted the liners in the newer models. My model is about 2 yrs old now and i have read conflicting descriptions of various liners in other readers descriptions. My liner looks like a down jacket and I have currently worn this jacket with a sweater in +25 deg for extended periods and have either been comfortable or irratatingly warm. Its a great jacket!!!

To free up space in my packs, I would some times attach my military issue 3L camelback to the exterior of my pack. It had four rings that I would use small caribiners to attach it. It also made it easy to remove and refill without having to empty and repack my kit.

There is no other option. They can only be sent by ground transportation which means North America UPS only. Fuel cannisters are listed as flammable gas and are restricted articles on commercial aircraft. No airline will accept for transport. You can try ups or fed ex. depending on the quantity they may ship them.

MSR Pocket Rocket Stove

The PocketRocket will accept any threaded, self-sealing Isobutane canister (IsoPro, GigaPower, PowerGas, JetPower, Bruntane,...).I have heard varying point on using other fuels, specifically the JetBoil fuel canisters. It will work but depending on who you talk to, some say it is not quite as effective, others say it works fine. All seem to agree they will screw on, but you may or may not see a slight ineffeciency using fuel canisters other than MSR. Definitely use another fuel if you are in a pinch, though. This stove will accept any Lindal valve (screw-on) fuel canister. The last canitser i used was a coleman propane bottle that you can find just about anywhere. jet boils work well also.

I second that emotion. While it shouldn't be a problem otherwise, if you're long-legged and short-waisted, the medium will work particularly well for you.I am 5' 11" 160lbs and I got the large. Its a little loose fitting but i can wear additional layers or a bulky sweater without looking like a marshmallow. If you have a thin frame and want a tighter fit go with a medium, but if you anticipate wearing something heavier underneath i would suggest a large.

Columbia Aquatooth Shoe - Men's
January 27, 2009
Rinsing them will solve any problems you might encounter, but there's nothing in these shoes that would be adversely affected by salt water in the first place. Also you should consider washing them in a washing machine. I do not have these shoes, but I have had various experiences with similar shoes that leads me to believe this. Especially if you are using them also as casual shoes, salt water will make them smell terrible and therefore should be washed.
I have had mine over a year and use them for fishing in both salt and fresh water. The only damage i have had has been to the removable insoles. They deform and get that funk smell. I also use them to cut my grass but rinse them after every use.

The North Face Terra 40 Backpack - 2450cu in
January 16, 2009
Two things come to mind. First, this pack comes in one size... being 5'4" and 125 myself, I would personally look elsewhere for a pack that comes in S M and L and get the small to ensure a better fit. Second, putting up to 40 pounds in this pack may make it uncomfortable. Keep in mind that this pack is only 2450 cu in so even getting up to 40 pounds of gear may be difficult. If you do plan on carrying that much gear, I'd probably suggest a larger pack as this pack is probably more suited for overnight trips.I am 5'11" and have a 34" waist. the waist belt is pretty stiff 0n this pack, but has straps on each side to tighten or loosen the fit on your waist. The sternum strap is also adjusable up or down, to keep the shoulder straps from digging into your arms. I have loaded this pack with 30-40 lbs of gear and its pretty stabile and comfortable on my frame. I think you should test fit this pack before buying. I dont think this pack will adjust to a 16" waist well.
