Depends how neat and organized you are with your packing....I am only saying because I am not always very organized when I pack my gear for skiing and climbing....I use an xl and there is a huge amount of room,I usually put all my ski and climbing gear in the bag,ski boots, climbing rope, avalanche equipment, skins, and extra everything: With room to spare,I tend to bring to much gear,so I like having the option of more room even if I do not always need it....

For multiple searches the Mammut beacon is the fastest.During my assistan ski guide course in canada(acmg)the mammut beacon found multiple victims the fastest compared to other brands.Note the heart finder only works with other mammut beacons.Eighty percent of the student owned one,and by the end of the course I bought one, along with a few others.Like any thing you will have to practice with this tool to become proficient. It took me a while to get comfortable with it.I owned an orthovox before this.(the blue original)There still is a few people who are fast with other models, but most have been using there beacon twenty or more years!

Regardless of the pack,I always take it off my shoulders when I am riding the lift!I remember when I was a ski patrol and my pack got caught on the chair on the unload ramp, and they had to stop the chair, because I was still hanging from it.Almost riped my shoulder out of the socket!

Wow you have three things going at once that can not be good!------------------Nice try, Mike. But wrong. You'll be fine (it's very hard to OD on electrolytes), but you're going to lose water a lot faster, so make sure you keep up.Cool thanks!Nothing wrong with learning something new!

In a down pour you are better off with a gore-tex 3 ply jacket.Light drizzle and snow it would be great especially in cold dry places.

There is less chater in a heavier ski so that might save energy, you will be able power through more variable conditions more easily so that will save energy. But the compromise is the weight on the legs will take a toll.If you are skiing dry powder all day I think a lighter ski would work.

No!Most telemark skiers use alpine touring skis now, they are kind of one in the same! There is only a small percentage of people using telemark skis, they are a dying breed.I think k2 even stopedmaking tele skis because everyone was buying the touring and alpine skis anyway,it is because of the stiffer tele boots!

This jacket is definitely not made for skiing, nor will it substain low temperatures, although it might make a good layering. It's made out of nylon w/ the hyvent dt coating, not gore-tex. It works well on the up for ski touring!

Mine does NOT have the two-way zipper, but it's last year's model (don't know if that matters though). It does NOT have the summit series logo, just the typical north face logo on the back right shoulder and the front left.It is a really warm insulating jacket, so you might be too toasty wearing it with the optimus.Reply above is correct....same for this year's model. No logo and no two way zipper. Not sure wearing it WITH the Optimusmakes sense, but guess it could be done.
