Salomon Kaos Ski Boot - Men's

February 11, 2009

I think this guy is confused on the names, but I don't know the info so take this with some salt:according to salomons site, the kaos are rated at 3600, the spk's (Pros?) are heavier at like 4600, exact weight i have no idea... i know the spk's seem to be more forgiving with a flex index at 110, unlike the kaos which is at 100, the spk (Pro?) has a extra toe absorber as well... you get more for your buck with the spk (Pro?) but in essence they are the same boot... if your worried about weight the kaos, if your worried about movement and such, then spk but in relation to each other they are about the same boot

Salomon Kaos Ski Boot - Men's

February 11, 2009

I am unaware of any difference. The Kaos appears to have the same liner. The only major difference for the average park jibber is the padded toe box in the Pro. (You can make your own for the Kaos with some adhesive padding)

Good warm weather glove

Burton Ronin Work Glove - Men's

Burton Ronin Work Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 10, 2009

Just received these. They look good, seem well constructed, and don't have much lining. I expected a more robust glove, instead this is clearly a spring glove design (or at least a relatively warm day).
Also, according to the sizing chart I am a small, however when I received these the small appeared almost...feminine. I tried them on and the first thing that came to mind was women's driving gloves. Not cool. So buy a size up and you should be good. Finally, given the palm design and stitching I'd say this wouldn't last long gripping ski poles, but should do great for boarding, fyi.

Six Six One N8-3 Pressure Suit

February 4, 2009

It gets a bit hot in the winter - but I compensate by wearing less layers and it ends up working out. I spend a fair amount of time skiing in the park, and I'm surprised that I don't even notice I'm wearing it doing spins etc. Perhaps, were I doing inversions, it would get in the way.

Giro 2008 Omen Helmet

February 4, 2009

Yeah, I got stuck with an older one and it's padding just isn't as robust and comfy as the newer ones. Sadly, I'd say it makes a big enough difference that you shouldn't buy the older model. Luckily, I bought the motorola headphones and those come with the new style pads, so now I'm rocking an old-but new contraption!

One of the best

Giro 2008 Omen Helmet

Giro 2008 Omen Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 February 4, 2009

This helmet is a little pricey, but it is well made and comfortable. I've used mine over a month now with nothing but smiles. It's not as steezy as some helmets out there, but it makes it up in comfort and class. The venting is convenient and easy to use (though I still occasionally forget which slide position is open vs closed :) and most importantly this does a great job of helping you regulate your temperature while protecting the noggin'. It's a well constructed helmet, I'd know, I've managed to hit it against a tree, the icy wall of a half-pipe, and on a 30 mph tumble learning to snowboard. Basically doesn't have a scratch.
The precise fit system gives me a headache if it's tight, but I just keep it loose and it feels perfect. Pair this with the Motorola Bluetooth headphones and shredding has never been better!

Best deal around

Giro G9 Wireless Audio Series Helmet

Giro G9 Wireless Audio Series Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 February 4, 2009

Bottom line - the headphones are sick. The controls are awesome and I laugh at all the fools with earbuds. They work great, have long battery life, can be used by themselves... and are supposedly a step up from the S805 which runs $50 anyways. On top of that - the helmet compatible headphones cost $200 normally and recently (1/25/09) I saw them on sale for $110. The helmet has basic features, and like all Giro helmets for the road and slopes it's very comfy, decent looking, and seems like it will last a long time. So...ummm... this is a steal.

In response to Skibum12

Giro 2008 Omen Helmet

Giro 2008 Omen Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 February 4, 2009

While skibum12 has a point (see last review) about the goggles falling off, I'll offer my opinion. I've used a helmet specific goggle (Dragon Mace) and a helmet compatible one (Smith somethin' or others) with this helmet and the goggles almost never come off. Here's the sitch: The goggle-holding system is unique - I've never seen it on any other helmets anywhere. It has two 'hooks' - one that keeps the strap from sliding up over the helmet, and one in the normal position - both keeping the strap from sliding down. This second strap extends all the way up and over the first hook (see pics).
This offers an advantage - no need to fiddle around with snaps etc, just slide your bling goggles on the helmet and get busy looking cool. It offers a disadvantage too, though - it is hypothetically possible for the goggle strap to weasel its way out and off pop your goggles. THEORETICALLY. Once in the last 14 ski days, when I had my gogs on the brim of the hat, I've had it happen. In all my tumbles (see helmet review) they have never NEVER even moved. Rock solid.
I'd say the system works as intended. Just don't wear your goggles like they're a hairdo and you won't have that prob.
