Tailgate, Car-camp, or Balcony Grill

Coleman RoadTrip Grill LXE

Coleman RoadTrip Grill LXE

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2008

This is probably the most versatile propane-fired cook stove on the market for the urban/suburban outdoors enthusiast. If you love tailgating, drive-up camping, picnics, or grilling at your apartment; then you will likely love the Coleman Roadtrip LXE. It has plenty of firepower (BTU's) for any cooking chore short of deep frying a turkey or a major fish fry. And with the accessory cooking surfaces (griddle, grill, or stove burner) you can cook almost anything cooked on a stove top. Water boils in your 8-12 cup coffee pot @ medium setting in about 2-3 minutes @ 9k ft. And that's pretty darned respectable for such a portable 2-burner stove. The LXE cleans up very easily and drains grease into a grease trap. I wish the grease trap was a bit bigger, but you have to give somewhere. The big wheels and integrated dolly handle make lugging this bad boy over unever terrain and even gravel a snap. Construction is very durable and there aren't many sharp or rough edges. The stove comes with the Coleman fuel bottle adapter and you can buy a tank hose adapter for about $10-15 extra. Electronic ignition works well even when damp. If wet, dry it out the same as you would with other stoves. But the thing has a lid to prevent this. For under $200, this is a great purchase for any type of outdoor cooking except backyard family BBQs, high-volume anything, deep frying, pig roasts, beer can chicken (hood isn't high enough), rotisserie, or canoe/kayak/backpack trips (too bulky and heavy). Skip the optional carry bag offered by Coleman except for long-term storage (for which almost any duffle bag will do @ a lower price point).

Almost Perfect

CamelBak Podium Water Bottle - 21oz

CamelBak Podium Water Bottle - 21oz

Rating for this product: 4 December 29, 2008

These are great bottles that out-shine the competition without a doubt. However, that HydroGuard anti-microbial lining...it's pretty good but not foolproof. Trust me. Yuck! And I would love to see CamelBak make this bottle in a smaller diameter 16oz. model. But, alas, they do not. In the 21oz., it's still a tad "fat" for most water bottle pouches on fanny packs and so forth.

Great Multi-use Small Grill

Coleman RoadTrip Grill LXE

Coleman RoadTrip Grill LXE

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2008

I wrote a longer review previously, but it disappeared. If you need a combo grill/camp stove for anything from tailgating to drive-up/car camping to grilling at your apartment, then this is the stove for you. It has plenty of horsepower. I've used mine up to 9k ft. and it will boil an 8-10 cup coffee pot of water in under 3 minutes at that elevation on high heat. It will run both burners on medium (plenty hot for any sort of cooking short of deep frying) for 2.5 hours on one green Coleman fuel bottle. That works out to about $1/day for fuel when camping for 2 people. You can add an extension hose and a big propane tank if you want for patio use or longer stationary camping trips. It comes with the screw-on bottle adapter. I got one stove burner, 2 grill (included), and 1 griddle accessories. And I can cook anything that can be prepared on a stove top or grill except for beer can chicken. The grill lid isn't tall enough for that. Construction quality is excellent and the wheels are big and strong enough that it even rolls well over gravel parking lots, etc.

A Valuable Option

Coleman 5-Foot Pressure Hose and Adapter

Coleman 5-Foot Pressure Hose and Adapter

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2008

The little green bottles are great if you need to stay mobile...thus light and/or compact. But when you're setting up a grill, stove, heater, etc. on your patio or on a long-term campsite, it's a lot more eco-friendly and efficient to use a larger propane tank. That's when you need this hose and adapter. And it works great. It's also pretty durable.

Better Than A Skillet

Coleman RoadTrip Accessory Gridle

Coleman RoadTrip Accessory Gridle

Rating for this product: 4 December 29, 2008

If you own a Coleman Roadtrip grill, you have to get one of these. It's faster, safer, more versatile, and easier to use than a frying pan on a camp stove/grill for cooking breakfast. It's aluminum, so that means two things: it's light and the non-stick coating will scratch off if you don't take care of it.

Coleman Exponent 3AA MicroPacker LED Lantern

Coleman Exponent 3AA MicroPacker LED Lantern

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2008

These are great little lanterns for backpackers, paddlers, and other minimalists. I even use mine for car camping on a larger campsite. I just bought an extra one and put one on each end of camp. When you retire to the tent, turn one off and take the other in with you. Hang it from the dome clip or whatever. They're amazingly small and bright. And I get about a week of use out of 3 AA batteries in harsh weather...more when it's mild.

Columbia Falmouth II Merino Wool Hiking Sock - 2 Pair

If these socks came in a wide assortment of colors, I wouldn't own any other socks. They are simply the perfect socks. You have to put your dogs in a pair to understand.

The Ultimate N Form Meets Function

Columbia Omni-Dry Silver Ridge Plaid Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Columbia Omni-Dry Silver Ridge Plaid Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 29, 2008

These shirts are a bit pricey, but you do get what you pay for. If looks are important in a performance fishing shirt, this is the ticket. They also come in solid colors that also look great. And you can wear them to dinner after a day on the stream without any raised eyebrows. They're also very comfortable. Breathability is top-notch. So you won't have big sweat stains to deal with, either. They do require some light ironing though. So they don't make the best tech shirts if you're camping.
