Marmot Ama Dablam Down Jacket - Men's

Marmot Ama Dablam Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 21, 2011

Have had this for a few weeks and it has performed well into the low 20s. Haven't experienced anything worse in it yet. As others have mentioned the outer material seems really thin but only time will tell if this is going to be a problem. The two chest pockets have somewhat strange cuts. Rather than stopping at the outer edge of your pectoral they continue all the way under your arm pit. Hasn't bothered me yet but could see this being an issue with certain items. One of my favorite features is that the whole jacket stuffs into it's own inner chest pocket. All packet up it is approximately 8*8*6 inches for size medium and if you have a stuff sack could be packed even smaller. I am 5'10" and about 145 pounds. The medium fits both over and under my hardshell so I can wear it as a quick layer over my hardshell for longer breaks on high aerobic activities or under it for extremely cold conditions. The waist draw strings can be tightened from the hand warmer pockets and seem to be solid construction. Occasionally the front zipper takes some effort to get started but seems well built and can be zipped open from the bottom to dump some heat. Would have some difficulty getting the hood over a helmet but is quite adjustable giving it a nice snug fit that blocks drafts with ease.

Atlas 11 Series Snowshoe

Atlas 11 Series Snowshoe

Rating for this product: 5 January 21, 2011

When you strap these guys on it doesn't feel like you've added any weight to your feet. The straps work quickly and deliver a secure fit that is easily adjustable. The traction on these things is super burly and will give you sure footing and everything from fine powder to the occasional ice patch. The climbing bar is a nice feature but a steep sustained incline is needed for them to be worth pulling up. At least a few hundred yards of consistent up hill. Otherwise they push your weight too far forward putting unnecessary strain on you calves. All in all a great set of snow shoes.

With some cam cleaner and this stuff was able to take several steel auto-locking carabiners from completely non functional to smooth operation. A must have for anyone who takes pride in their climbing gear.

Metolius 3/4 Finger Climbing Glove

Metolius 3/4 Finger Climbing Glove

Rating for this product: 5 January 18, 2011

Got these for belaying a a summer camp in Prescott, AZ. Used them four days a week, for ten weeks, with between 15 and 40 belays each day. The leather is a bit polished but is still holding up good. There is a small hole next to one of the thumbs where the synthetic material starts. Not a huge problem but in future models the leather could cover just a bit more. The gloves do well with the heat(95+) most days. All in all a great glove that I would recommend.

Stoic Merino Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 13, 2011

Wear this thing more than a shirt should be worn. Regulates temperature like a champ. Fit is a nice athletic cut without being to short or restrictive. Can wear for several days without it starting to smell at all and if you just air it out for a night its good as new, even after sweaty activities.

Stoic Overhang Pant - Men's

Stoic Overhang Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 13, 2011

I've used these climbing in the summer, hiking anytime, and snowshoeing just yesterday. i have yet to find an activity that these don't do well at. They shed light moisture and snow even while snowshoeing for four hours in deep snow. They have enough stretch that they're great for climbing, its me not my pant that limits those high steps. Also they're very durable thus far. Great all around

Black Diamond Momentum Dual Speed Harness

Black Diamond Momentum Dual Speed Harness

Rating for this product: 4 January 13, 2011

I like the ease of adjustment for this harness and how much adjustment is allowed. Depending on where you look, some places say this has a haul loop, it definitely does not. Gear loops are solid though i've melted through the polymer on one from some fast rappelling. overall a good harness that could have some minor improvements added to it with just a little effort

Black Diamond Icon Headlamp

Black Diamond Icon Headlamp

Rating for this product: 4 January 13, 2011

This is a great headlamp, fits securely to your head(even over a helmet if need be), has a long battery life, and isn't as heavy as others that boast the same power. This would be a perfect headlamp if there was some sort of shield over the power button. on multiple occasions i've opened my pack to find that my light is on. other than that a great light

Rating for this product: 5 January 13, 2011

this is a great base or mid layer from stoic. thumb loops are a great feature when layering over. used it snowshoeing in Flagstaff yesterday and it did a great job regulating temperature and keeping sweat from accumulating.

Stoic Merino Bliss 150 Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 13, 2011

This is another solid product from stoic except for it's thickness or rather it's lack there of. In the gray/off-white color it is actually see through which is a problem if you're not wearing something under. not a huge deak but if it is supposed to be a base layer it could stand to be a shade thicker.

Stoic Luft Hoody Insulated Sweater - Men's

Stoic Luft Hoody Insulated Sweater - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 13, 2011

This jacket is really light, easy to compress, and very warm. The sizing seems very strange when compared to other stoic gear. most stoic jackets have a very athletic cut whereas this one is much more boxy. a good feature that stoic could include in the future is being able to stuff the jacket into its own pocket. you can get pretty close but it doesn't quite fit. overall a good synthetic insulating layer.

don't breath and insufficient coverage

Sierra Designs Hurricane Pant - Men's

Sierra Designs Hurricane Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 January 12, 2011

had these for about a year. the fit is really awkward and there is no articulation in the knees. any kind of big step or if your riding a bike and your ankles are fully exposed. this is particularly a problem if riding a bike as there is constant spray coming off the street. being able to stuff them into their own pocket is a nice feature but the lack of breathability more than counteracts this feature.

Mountain Hardwear Transition Softshell Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Transition Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 9, 2010

Got this two days ago and already love it. windstopper fabric throughout, areas that dont have that still offer considerable wind blocking performance, and a good athletic fit. there are only a two reasons that this isnt 5 stars. one is that there is no waist draw string but as the fit is good it doesnt render the jacket useless. my other problem is the pockets or rather the lack of pockets. it would be really nice if this had two high hand pockets but instead there is one small back pocket. not a big deal since the majority of the time im in the jacket im moving. if the back pocket were an inch and a half bigger in any dimension you could stuff the whole jacket into itself which would be great. All in all a super solid jacket that I would buy again in a heartbeat. im 5'10" and 140 pounds fitting into a medium with a bit of room.

Stoic Welder Hi Softshell Jacket - Men's

Stoic Welder Hi Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 6, 2010

Suddenly one of my favortie jackets. I love that the hood is insulated, sheds water very well, and fits perfectly. Im 5'10", 140 and a medium fits really good. On my last snowboarding trip wore this and a merino base layer and was completely content. Long lift ride? Just pull an the insulated hood for a chill free ride. Only complaint is the cinching system for the hood. It comes loose over time but it can easily be remedied with a couple cordlocks.

I got mine to attach to the back of my headlamp so when im biking around at night I can be seen easily from behind. Usually keep in flashing mode to increase liklyhood of being seen. Its super light and attached to the strap without any trouble. Havent had to use it on its own but I imagine for small tasks it would work fine.

Sanuk Grifter Shoe - Men's

Sanuk Grifter Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 3, 2009

These are my second pair of sanuks. they re super comfortable, easy to get on and off, and i personally love how flexible they are. There is just enough padding to block sharp things but still allow your foot to wrap around whatever you re steppin on. I dont know bout the rest who have reviewed these but mine start to smell pretty rank within a few weeks. I dont care all that much and will just throw them in the washer a couple times a year. great shoe

The North Face Horizon Surplus Pant - Men's

The North Face Horizon Surplus Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 19, 2009

usually wear a 32X32 and the 30 longs fit perfect. dont need a belt due to elastic sides as well as drawsting closure and belt loops if the elastic doesnt cut it. feel great climbing, biking, or just casual. have a great assortment of pockets including a hidden zippered pocket in one of the cargo pockets which would be good for keys and what not if you re swimming(an activity where items in normal pockets tend to disappear). only complaint is if you roll up the legs for climbing or biking after a few hours they begin to unroll because the fabric is so light and flexible. still not enough to bring them down fromfive stars though. a great pair for sure

Black Diamond Cosmo Headlamp

Black Diamond Cosmo Headlamp

Rating for this product: 4 September 19, 2009

Bought this for biking around town at night and for that it does just fine. Beam is adequate for projecting far enough ahead that you dont hit pot holes and what not. Others have complained about hinge on light breaking but i have been throwing it into my bag wherever with books and other rigid objects around it and have not had a problem yet.

Got this jacket three weeks ago to keep in my bag whenever im outside just in case a storm shows up. Packs super small, weighs almost nothing, and fits into included carrying bag with a little folding. Completely waterproof when ive used it biking in light rain and still breathes well. Athletic fit and sleeves plenty long enough to cover wrists where gloves meet and then some. All in all a superb jacket that i dont leave the house without.

Metolius Stomp Crash Pad

Metolius Stomp Crash Pad

Rating for this product: 5 May 29, 2009

have taken the pad out about a half dozen times. taken falls ranging from awkward 5 footers to 15 ft. straight landings. What i like about this pad is there is enough closed cell foam that it allows you to take bigger falls without bottoming out. Feels really stiff but thats what you want for the bigger falls that could actually injure you. A great pad for the value without a doubt. it doesnt have any extra pockets to hold gear but I always sandwich two pairs of shoes, chalk bag, water, jacket, and a guide book in it and have never had anything fall out. great product from metolius.

Black Diamond Sputnik Chalk Bag

Black Diamond Sputnik Chalk Bag

Rating for this product: 3 March 17, 2009

here's what i like. It is a good size, will not fall over when placed on ground, has belt so if you dont have a clib you can still wear it, and comes with a decent little brush for scrubbing holds clean. Only a few problems but they seem substantial enough. have some difficulty cinching the draw cord tight enough to eliminate spills which is especially difficult if you re a little pumped, inner material can be somewhat abrasive on hands made tender from sharp holds, and it may be just a shade small for reaching your whole hand into without creating a decent chalk cloud.
