Should be standard

Fritschi Diamir Climb Spring

Fritschi Diamir Climb Spring

Rating for this product: 5 November 17, 2004

These springs are essential for kick turns. If you plan to do any climbing with freeride bindings you need these springs. If you don't you should get other bindings. They should be standard part of the package and not extras. It's not as if the bindings are very light anyway.

Oldi but good

Ortovox F1 Focus Avalanche Beacon

Ortovox F1 Focus Avalanche Beacon

Rating for this product: 4 September 27, 2004

Don't forget compatibility issues when scoping out the latest and greatest transceiver. The Ortovox is probably the most used around the world, and has a PROVEN track record and excellent range when in a party with various brands of transceiver. This baby takes a little extra skill to use but for my money is the one to go for. Maybe the X1 would be better but only because of the 2 aerials. Digital schmigital!

DAKINE Heli Pro Pack - 1100 cu in

DAKINE Heli Pro Pack - 1100 cu in

Rating for this product: 5 July 19, 2004

Just bought one of these babies and was very impressed. The first pack I have found with a quick fastening carry system for skis! Heaps of room, good pocket for shovel, great tool straps. Comfortable to carry, durable. Good price too.

Good and bad

Fritschi Diamir Freeride Binding

Fritschi Diamir Freeride Binding

Rating for this product: 3 April 26, 2004

Excellent backcountry binding that climbs well. Despite the seductive advertising expect plenty of lateral twist when skiing at high speed or on hard pack. This seems to be due to the heel not locking down firmly enough and despite the weight penalty. They are also suprisingly fragile when struck in an abnormal way, such as tumbling onto rocks.
