The North Face Vector 22 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 March 27, 2009

This is a pretty soild tent all around. The pole sleeves make it feel extremely stable, but hinder the vetilation a little bit. Packs nice and small in the included compression sack. Its a good bang for your buck tent, but you can probably get something better for the same weight like a hubba hubba.

Great, but condensation ruins it

The North Face Vario 23 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

The North Face Vario 23 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 3 March 25, 2009

This tent is almost perfect. Lightweight, packs ridiculously small, can stand up to brutal wind and hail, pretty spacious, and looks damn cool too. But, everywhere I used this tent from the Absarokas and Beartooths to the Wind River Range, WAY too much condensation. Made my down bag so wet in September I almost froze my butt off.

The North Face Meso 22 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

The North Face Meso 22 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 3 March 25, 2009

Well this tent seems pretty cool, but the internal space is ridiculously small. I'm 5'8" and my wife is 5'5" and we couldn't fit in it comfortably. There is plenty of floor space, but the problem is that one side of the tent literally has double the headroom of the other side! So one person can sit up, sort of, and the other person is screwed. And there is no top vent at all. I got a Sierra Designs Vapor Light 2 instead.

Osprey Packs Talon 22 Backpack - 1200-1300cu in

Rating for this product: 5 March 25, 2009

Seriously the most comfortable pack ever. Don't even really know I have it on. Lots of smart features, light weight, just perfect. My wife and I both rock one the s/m size because of the adjustable torso length. I'm 5'8"

Osprey Packs Talon 44 Backpack - 2600-2700cu in

Rating for this product: 5 March 25, 2009

I use this sucker for fastpacking and it is so comfortable and so light. It has a freakishly large volume compared to other 42-44 liter packs, as Osprey packs often do in my experience. Construction is very durable all around, comfort is top notch, too many cool features to mention. I promise you will love it.

So warm

Western Mountaineering UltraLite Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Down DO NOT USE

Western Mountaineering UltraLite Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Down DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 March 25, 2009

The fluffiest down bag I've ever felt. Forget abotu the Helium, Hightail, and Phantom, the WM Ultralite is much better quality at a better weight. I've been darn warm in it down to about 25 degrees, and I'm sure at 20 or a bit lower I would still be fine. But FYI, bottom of the bag is a little underfilled which is no big deal unless you role around all over the tent. Also, it runs short, the regular should probably be rated for 5'10" and under.

MSR Reactor Stove

MSR Reactor Stove

Rating for this product: 5 March 25, 2009

My stove has boiled a half pot of water in udner a minute, no joke. My friend has a jetboil and we went head to head on fastest boiltime and MSR won. Packs neatly and is fairly light. Not good for slow cooked meals, this thing goes from hot to hotter.

Osprey Packs Aether 70 Backpack- 4000-4400cu in

Rating for this product: 5 March 25, 2009

Best bang for your buck in a big pack. Great features, especially for the weight. Stretch pockets rock my world. Can put kind of a lot of pressure on the hips, it takes a little adjusting and breaking into to get it comfortable, even with the custom molded belt.

Outdoor Research Expedition Crocodile Gaiter

Outdoor Research Expedition Crocodile Gaiter

Rating for this product: 5 March 25, 2009

Very waterproof and durable. I've postholed and snowshoed for days in wet spring snow pack that was 6 feet deep. Combine these with gore-tex boots and you will have dry feet.

Finally!

Sierra Designs Vapor Light 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Sierra Designs Vapor Light 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 March 25, 2009

Everyone is always excited about how "this tent fits people over 6 feet tall!" Well I'm finally excited to say that this is the perfect ultra-light tent for people under 6-foot. Backpacker says that two sleeping pads overlap at the end, but two thermarest prolite 3's fit in perfectly with no amount of overlap. There is head room for two people to sit up, you just can't be a big person. REI has the XL version of this tent, go check it out there. There are lots of neat little features like the jake's feet (where the poles attach to the tent body on the bottom). Bonus: my tent for the packaged weight is 3.5 pounds. Only a couple small complaints: the stuff sack it comes with is huge. why? its a small tent? I'm going to use a compression sack instead. The tent comes with 6 stakes, just enough to stake it out, but it also comes with two guylines and no stakes for them. I guess I'll either use rocks or buy a couple MSR needle stakes. Oh well. All in all, a great tent. Rightfully the "Top Ultralight" by Backpacker.
