How is the traction or grip on granite and limestone? Are they worthy at doubling as a scrambling/approach shoe?

I'm 5'7 and 160# with 32" waist and wide shoulders and I ordered a large. The sleeves are way too long and it fits a tad loose. But, if I wear anything under it bigger than a tee shirt, like a thick base layer, I need the extra room. So, with a base layer, a large is a good fit for the bike commute or winter trail run. If you just wear a tee under it, then a medium is good.
