Very handy

Backcountry.com Titanium Cookset - 700ml Pot /Spork

Rating for this product: 5 September 28, 2011

I don't have the set, just the cup/pot by itself, but it's great! Large enough to make a single serving of pasta, make water for coffee, etc. can put lid at bottom of bag, and slip a nalgene, a fuel bottle, stove or coffee maker in there for maximum pack-ability!

Most comfortable things I've ever worn on my feet.

Patagonia Footwear Nomad GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Patagonia Footwear Nomad GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 14, 2011

I've loved these boots since the moment I tried them on. I hesitated at the price, but after a while I couldn't get the comfort out of my head. I've owned these boots for over a year now, and I never once regretted my choice.
If this is one of the boots you are considering, this is the clear winner.
I would be remiss to not mention the problem I had, which was a tear in the stitching, which allowed dirt to pile in between the liner and the upper.
However! I use my gear a bit harder than most, and it still took a year for that to happen. Luckily, Patagonia is amazing. I sent my boots to them to have them repaired, and I was sent a new pair of boots.
I look forward to enjoying my Nomad's for many years to come.

Nalgene Wide Mouth Tritan Bottle - 32oz

Rating for this product: 5 June 14, 2011

Welp. It's a Nalgene. I don't know why you wouldn't buy them. I have a 3 liter platypus hydration system, but I still use nalgene.
Always have to have at least one for some flavor drink!

This bag travels.

Stoic Welded Sport Duffel

Rating for this product: 4 June 14, 2011

I'm a conservation worker and I take this with me for work and when I travel in my time off. Since I bought this bag 10 months ago, I have been constantly using it, and it has held up extremely well. I've thrown it it trailers with chainsaws and sent it through aiports, and it hasn't failed me yet.
The only slight I have is that the tape for the zippers can sometimes gum up the zipper and you've got to fight it a bit.

Marmot Aegis Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 21, 2011

What a great shell. It's pretty light, packs down to the size of a softball, has pit zips, the waist pockets are high so you can still get in them with a pack on. I like the ninja cuffs the extend over my hand a bit.

No other backpacking stove exists.

MSR WhisperLite International Multi-Fuel Stove

Rating for this product: 5 January 21, 2011

This stove has been my most trusted piece of gear since 2003. I have taken it with me in the Olympic NP backcountry, sandy in the southwest, it was in a flood in Missouri, and dozens of other places. One time my friend picked me up an hour after I got done with a 9 day patrol, and we went straigh to the beach. Too for any store that sold white gas to be open, so I just filled an extra bottle with gasoline straight from the pump. Of course it burned dirtier, and I had to clean it thoroughly afterward, but it worked like a charm. As a side note, when my fuel line cable started fraying after 6 years, I was unable to find them for sale anywhere. I called MSR and they sent me three. For free. This stove will never be surpassed in my eyes.

Good compression sack

Stoic WPF Compression Sack

Rating for this product: 4 January 21, 2011

I haven't gotten to test the waterproofness of this bag yet, fortunately, but as a compression sack it is very good.
It was a lot bigger than I expected, so I'm using it for my sleeping bag. Instead of just stuffing it in the bottom section of my pack, now I can compress it down, then kind of fold the thing in half and compress more, and get the sack in the bottom section of my pack, and have room for my liner in there also!

Amazing Tent

Kelty Gunnison 2 Tent: 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 January 21, 2011

I got this tent about two months ago, and I've used it 3 times with great satisfaction.
I work for a conservation corps, for twice a month for 8 days my tent is my home. I researched tents for 4 months when picking my most recent tent, and I decided on the Gunnison 2.1.
For me, dual doors tents are a must-have. If you ever go backpacking with a friend or partner, one door just sucks. Someone is always walking over someone's things, and dirt is just getting everywhere. Not only does the Gunnison have two doors, but it also had two very large vestibules. The vestibule space is enough to hold my 4500cu in. backpack and my boots.
When I use this for work, I keep my backpack in the tent with me, and also my daypack. When used by two people, there is enough room for people, sleeping pads and bags, pillows, and a small daypack/bag for each person.
The tent also comes with a gear loft.
I recommend getting the footprint too, because the floor doesn't seem super durable.
I like the arched floor by the doors, because not only does it keep any possible sheet flow water out, but it also keeps you from kicking dirt into the tent when you are crawling in.
The vents up top are awesome, I've never had this tent get condensation on the inside.

All in all, a very great roomy tent, doesn't weigh a lot. The setup is a breeze with the one pole on a central hub.
If you want a 2 person backpacking tent for under 200 dollars and under 6 pounds, look no further.

great little press

GSI Outdoors Java Press

GSI Outdoors Java Press

Rating for this product: 4 November 10, 2010

This press is pretty great. The only downside I have found is that after a while the plastic area that holds the screen in can get warped. Other than that, no problems. Maintenance is easy, and cleaning is a breeze.

Arms too short

Mountain Hardwear Lodown Down Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Lodown Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 December 8, 2009

This jacket is great...if you have short arms.
I went to a local retailer to try it on, but they didn't have the Lodown. I tried on other MH coats, down and synth, and a small fit me perfectly, so I bought it. When it showed up at my door, the arms were too short. I exchanged for a medium which I got today. While the arms were a little longer, they were still too short! I'm returning the medium and going to try a different coat.
Other than the sizing, the coat is great! Warm as hell, lightweight, and packs down super small!
