Grivel Helix SPD Ice Screw

October 20, 2011

actually, the "short" "medium" "long" refer to the length of the screw (12, 16, and 20cm long screw respectively), and the 10 20 30 refers to the sling length (in CMs)

These are the ones right here. The bar tack section is less bulky than others (e.g. BD), and the price and other spec's are right. I think the weight savings is pretty trivial, but the reduced bulk is awesome. Use they yellow guy for perfect alpine quickdraws.

Nice idea, meh overall

Metolius Dirt Bag - 1210cu in

Metolius Dirt Bag - 1210cu in

Rating for this product: 3 May 5, 2010

The tarp is way too small for a bag that can hold a 70m rope. The bag is a bit big for a 10.5mm 60m rope. The procedure for packing the rope up into the bag is adequate. However, the drawstring closure doesn't work well, has a tendency to work open, and the pushbutton doohickey to hold the drawstring tight breaks very quickly (so you're down to knotting the drawstring). The zipper also has a tendency to work open. Go for a ropemaster.

This is really a bad, outdated design. You end up with a lumpy mess, the tarp is too small, and it's an awkward size. Get a Metolius rope master

A bit pricey but they're awesome. Have used them for climbing, hiking, canyoneering, travel (wash up fine in a sink and dry quick on a clothesline) and around town on the weekend. Excel at all. Best shorts I've ever owned, so I got a second pair in another color.
