Awesome Down Jacket!

Outdoor Research Virtuoso Hooded Down Jacket - Women's

Outdoor Research Virtuoso Hooded Down Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 9, 2011

I used the Virtuoso as my belay jacket this ice climbing season and I stayed warm and amazingly dry. You get warmth without feeling bulky. The jacket is rugged and still looks great after a season of hanging out with sharp, pointy objects! I like being able to cinch down the waist and seal the wrists with the drawcord and cuff tabs. I also love the dual zippers that allow me to zip up the bottom of the jacket while I am belaying. The Virtuoso also looks great as a warm "around the town" down jacket. My jacket is a *true* medium with plenty of room left for layers.

My Mentor....

Outdoor Research Mentor Jacket - Women's

Outdoor Research Mentor Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 9, 2011

I love my Mentor. It is absolutely rugged, waterproof and windproof. One of my favorite times to wear the Mentor is when I ice climb on warmer days. On warmer days (warm for ice climbing frozen waterfalls) there is plenty of water dripping off the ice and the Mentor just sheds the water. I wear a few layers under it and I stay warm. I wear a medium and there is plenty of room for the layers without limiting my range of motion/making me feel bulky. The hood fits great over my climbing helmet. It still looks brand new after 20+ days in the field.

No lie...lovin' my Alibi!!

Outdoor Research Alibi Softshell Jacket - Women's

Outdoor Research Alibi Softshell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 9, 2011

The Alibi has really delivered for me this ice/alpine climbing season. I have stayed warm and dry in the craziest of conditions. This softshell sheds water and breathes so I stay dry inside. The bells and whistles are pretty cool: thumb gaiters that close the gap that can form between a jacket sleeve and your glove and a secret, attached helmet liner that when not in use stores neatly in neck area of jacket. However...my favorite feature...and this is so simple...is the small zip pocket on the upper left side of jacket. I store a pair of hand warmers, lip balm, a readily available snack. Most jackets only have lower pockets that become unavailable when I am wearing a climbing harness. I am psyched OR included the pocket on the Alibi. I have climbed thirty days in this jacket, washed it and it still looks brand new. I wear a medium and find the Alibi is true to size with plenty of room for layers.

Outdoor Research Mentor Jacket - Women's

Lin...I love my Mentor. It is absolutely rugged, waterproof and windproof. One of my favorite times to wear the Mentor is when I ice climb on warmer days. That sentence answers your question! On warmer days (warmer for ice climbing frozen waterfalls) there is plenty of water dripping off the ice and the Mentor just sheds the water. I wear a few layers under it and I stay warm. I wear a medium and there is plenty of room for the layers without limiting my range of motion/making me feel bulky. The hood fits great over my climbing helmet. It still looks brand new after 20+ days in the field. Hope this helps!

Nice on Ice

Outdoor Research Solitude Softshell Pant - Women's

Outdoor Research Solitude Softshell Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 22, 2009

Love my Solitude Pants...they move with me as I ice climb and ski. Great fit and they hold their shape after lots of wear and care. I stay warm (plenty of room for a pair of expedition weight long underwear when conditions get frigid), dry and the fabric holds its own next to my sharp crampons. I am usually a "basic black" soft shell pants kinda gal...but I went with the brown Solitude Pants and just love the different look. I pair the pants with the blue OR Mithril Soft Shell Jacket and love the combination. Sweet!!!!

Great Light Belay/About Town Jacket

Outdoor Research Aria Down Hooded Jacket - Women's

Outdoor Research Aria Down Hooded Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 22, 2009

I depend upon my Aria Down Jacket as my "go to" light belay jacket for moderately cold days on the ice or rock. It keeps me warm, has ample room for my helmet inside the hood and packs nicely in the small stuff sack that comes with the jacket...I just clip it to my harness on multi-pitch climbs.
This jacket isn't just functional but also fashionable. The cut is flattering and I love wearing out on the town. I get lots of comments on the look of this down jacket.

My favorite Ice Climbing Softshell!

Outdoor Research Mithril Softshell Jacket - Women's

Outdoor Research Mithril Softshell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 22, 2009

My bluebird OR Mithril softshell got as many miles on the ice as I did last year (over 65 days!)...did not go anywhere without her! First of all, she is a looker. I have never gotten so many positive comments about the appearance of a piece of outdoor gear. Personally, I love the fact that the Mithril keeps me warm, sheds waterfall/snow moisture, allows me to move on the ice without restricting my reach, has ample room in the hood for my helmet without messing with my peripheral vision and withstands the dangers of hanging out with sharp pointy objects...the fabric is tough!

I pair the blue Mithril Jacket with the OR Solitude Softshell Pants in espresso brown...a fabulously functional look.
