Love the outdoors, cell phones and computers are a way of life. But the ability to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city life drives me to the woods. I am an avid hiker and skier. My travels always include the family. It is my goal to just keep trying to show the wonders of the outdoors to my kids.

dry and compressable

Outdoor Research Ultralight Dry Sack

Outdoor Research Ultralight Dry Sack

Rating for this product: 5 July 21, 2009

bought two of these dry sacks to keep clothing dry durring a wet back packing trip. The sacks worked great. Not only do they keep the water out when you compress the air out of the sack and roll it up it saves room in the pack. Had I know how much room this would save when compressing the air out of clothing, I would have bought these along time ago.

This was a great addition to our last trip Carry it rolled up with out water. It takes up no room. Then when you are at camp and need to pump in some fresh water you dont have to mess with alot of individual bottles.

GSI Outdoors Glacier Bottle Cup/Pot - 18fl oz

GSI Outdoors Glacier Bottle Cup/Pot - 18fl oz

Rating for this product: 4 July 21, 2009

It works well large enough to boil water. But not alot of water. The handles stay cool and accesable. Since I used it more of a coffe mug while backpacking would have prefered a insulated mug. But then you could not cook with it. Over all a nice cup.

Can't leave home without one.

Black Diamond Wiz Headlamp

Black Diamond Wiz Headlamp

Rating for this product: 4 July 21, 2009

A headlamp has become a esential piece for any backpacking trip. This one is still going strong after many nights on the trail with alot of use. The head band strap is nice and stays adjusted with out any need to refit. My only gripe is that it will seperate from the strap when not in use. It is easy to attach but can be anoyng when it slips off while trying to put one. But in the end it has really worked well. Very bright and long lasting.

Good pack rain jacket for a boy or girl

The North Face Resolve Jacket - Boys'

Rating for this product: 5 July 21, 2009

I knew based up the raiy weather we have had here on teh east coast this year my son would need a good rain jack for the trips we had planned this summer. This jack was a great investment. Very durable and waterproof. It fitted well under his pack straps will climbing in the rain. While being caught in a thunderstorm at the top of a pass with ail raining down on our group we were dry and warm. It packs well and will be included on all of our upcomming outings.

Good pack bowl

Sea To Summit Delta Bowl

Sea To Summit Delta Bowl

Rating for this product: 4 July 21, 2009

This was a good bowl to include on our backpacking trip. Spent four day with my son using the bowls. Both look brand new after the trip. They are easy to clean, very durable, easy to hold. The do not conduct heat and stay put on uneven surfaces. Only down fall is the lack of premarked measurements. It only shows metric measurements and they are very hard to read.

Great Pack what a help on the trail

Ruffwear Palisades Dog Pack

Rating for this product: 5 July 21, 2009

This was a great pack for a 4 day excertion in the Woods of the Adirondacks. My dog been is a 140lbs bernese. This pack offered the room needed to pack all of the gear needed to take good car of him on our backpacking adventure. I really appreciated the seperate harness and saddle bags. When heading up a very rough trail the Colden Pass trail in the high peaks, ben was having trouble getting around the big boulders. I was able to quickly remove the saddle bags from teh harness and attach the bags to my pack. The harness underneath the saddle bags allowed me the ability to help lift ben up cliff faces and large boulders via the integra handle. He would have had a much harder time scrabling up these steeper pitches. The pack is made from very durable materials is very water resisstant and comfortable for the dog to wear. The belly strap keeps the pack from shifting forward and or rolling to the side when fitted properly. This pack was a big help could not have done the trip as easily with out it.

Not a good fit

Kelty Chuckwagon Dog Pack

Kelty Chuckwagon Dog Pack

Rating for this product: 2 June 20, 2009

My son and I like to backpack with our 140 lbs. Bernese. We used this pack on about four multiday trips. The pack did well on flat terain. But as soon as you started in to the mountains with decents the pack would slip off. He also descovered he could drop his shoulders and let it slide off. We did everything to get this pack to fit. The straps would loosen aver time and had to be knotted to keep from slipping. This was not a big deal since once it is fitted properly you should only need to use the quick releases to take off or put on. Construction was good no problems with the zippers or stiching. But definately look for a pack with straps that go infront of and behind your dogs chest.
