  • Stomping Grounds:

PARKS, LONG WALKS AROUND LONG ISLAND IN THE BITTER COLD
  • Bio:

I AM AN AVID OUTDOOR PERSON,WHO LIKES BEING IN THE OUTDOORS DURING THE WINTER, REGARDLESS OF THE TEMPERATURES.

I HAVE HAD MANY DOWN JACKETS OVER THE PAST TWENTY YEARS. THE FIRST GREAT JACKET WAS A NORTH FACE BAFFLED DIFFENTIALLY CUT PARKA, WITH ABOUT 18 OUNCES OF DOWN - WHICH I BOUGHT UNTIL IT WAS DISCONTINUED. IT WAS CALLED THE NORTH FACE BROOKSRANGE PARKA.

THESE DAYS, I OWN TWO MOUNTAIN HARDWEAR SUBZERO SL PARKAS, AND THEY SEEM TO BE DOING A REASONABLE JOB IN VERY COLD TEMPERATURES. THEY ARE ALSO VERY LIGHT AND COMFORTABLE. I ALSO OWN ONE FEATHERED FRIENDS ICEFALL PARKA, WITH 800 FILL POWER.

TODAY IT IS 19 DEGREES IN NEW YORK WITH 10-40 MILE AN HOUR WINDS. HOPEFULLY THE MT. HARDWEAR SUBZERO SL WILL LET ME LAUGH AT THIS WEATHER.

I AM KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT JUST ABOUT EVERY PARKA ON THE MARKET, SINCE I HAVE HAD TO BECOME A VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE BUYER/EVALUATOR OVER THE YEARS.

    KEEP WARM!

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Down Parka - Men's

December 8, 2008

First of all, take caps lock off. Second of all, I already answered this question when you asked it (twice) on the page for the North Face jacket. The North Face is warmer, but this jacket is lighter and more versatile and easier to move around in. And a lot cheaper. Given the choice, I'd buy this one (well, I did).

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Down Parka - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Down Parka - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 8, 2008

1) best parka i have ever owned!
2) live in ny and it keeps you warm in 10 to 20 degree temperatures with winds.
3) the hood is great. Is face protective!
4) this mt. Hardwear sub zero sl down parka feels more comfortable than
The icefall parka - from feathered friends, which is an expedition parka
That costs about $200 more!!!
(i should know. I own both)
5) this year i bought my second mt. Hardwear subzero sl parka!!
6) i simply feel absolutely safe, knowing i have this warm and well designed protective parka.
7) it is a better parka than anything made by north face, ll bean, eastern mountain sports, land's end, or most any other manufacturer.
Bottom line:
Go for it!!! It is a great parka!!

GREAT DOWN PARKA

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Down Parka - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Down Parka - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 8, 2008

1) very warm down parka in temps. Of 10 degrees or less with high winds.
2) excellent hood is face protective!
3) comfortable parka!
4) better parka than anything made by north face, ll bean, land's end, and even better than individually hand made parkas from feathered friends in seattle, which cost
$200 more. The absolute zero sl parka is better than their icefall parka. (i know. I have both)

Bottom line:
Buy this parka without reservation.
It will protect you from winter's worst elements!! Trust me.
