The North Face Ultra 104 GTX XCR Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 9, 2009

I had researched extensively for a pair of lightweight non-ankle supporting shoes to wear on the Pacific Crest Trail. I found that these are the closest most rugged shoe before you take the next step in cutting off your ankle freedom, but still prefer lightweight. Two pairs of thick socks and strategic lacing and you've got yourself a nice set of wheels. One of the key elements I like is the wide outsole, which reduces tweak significantly thus making it more of a hybrid than comparable trail runners. I had a pair of Solomon's that I adored for their bullet proof construction, but I ended up developing bunions due to a narrow toe space, the Ultra 104's are a superb remedy.
Bottom Line: Huge rubber sole makes for more milage, comfy, supportive foot space, wide traction, lightweight, and customizable lacing.
