K2 ObSETHed Alpine Ski

Really you guys? Seth has been awsome enough to come on this site, write a review and answer questions and your still asking about mounting. Take it from him (I mean the ski is named aafter him...) if he says you probably don't want to go further forward then +3, I wouldn't. Peace and thank Seth.

Rossignol S7 Caballero Alpine Ski

July 20, 2009

Please Michael Kern,

I'm seriously considering this ski, along with the JJ, and possibly the pontoon (I know it's a bit different then the other two.) You seen to be really stoked on this ski so I'm curious what length you got, I'm looking at either the 188 or 195, and how big are you? Just for refrence, I'm 16, 6 foot anod about 185lb, and I'm looking for a ski that can charge in powder and when it gets chopped up, can take some pretty good sized drops, but is still playful.

Thanks

I'm looking at this ski for park/no snow/carvin/fuck around day. Seeing if this ski matches what I'm looking for. I'm Also wondering on the size. I was thinking 181 but I don't know. I'm 16, 6 foot, 185lb. I currently ski 179cm obsetheds but those aren't mounted too close to center and I plan on mounting these at around -2.

K2 Apache Coomba Alpine Ski

February 17, 2009

i'm not seth but i'm 5'11" 160lb or so (15 yrs) and have the 179cm you're freakin psycho for even thinking about the 169cm. I was caught between the 179cm and 189cm but after skiing them a fair amount I'm happy with my length but could still see myself skiing the 189cm pretty easily. I mounted them at tradish (-7.5cm from core center) and everytime i look down i feel like there is very little tip. that being said i haven't had any tip diving problems at all it's just a mind thing. especially at 6'1" around 200lb i could definately see you rocking a 189cm. that being said i don't skin with mine since i have jesters on them (only short little hikes) so the weight of the 189cm might be too much but don't be afraid of the length. lay them down on the ground and stand over them and you will see that they really aren't that big of skis. also i just got back from whistler where there is absolutely no snow unless you head over to blackcombe and hike the glacier and they still ripped everywhere. also its fun to see that you are the practically the only person with skis over 85mm underfoot. all i can say about the coomba is that i ripped past a guy who was having trouble on some down some chopped up mogels off of harmony. bottom line get the 179's or start the squats and wall-sits and go for the 189cm.oh and if your still undecided go to tetongravity.com and search "obsethed". And don't be afraid to pull the trigger you'll drive yourself crazy if you keep asking more and more questions.

K2 ObSETHed Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 January 12, 2009

179cm (only had one day on them)
first of thank you willie for suggesting this ski. i mounted them at the midsole line which is 7.5cm back from center and thank god i did. my first impression when i got on them was that the tip seemed short but after my first run i wasn't worried about it anymore. still for the 179cm i wouldn't go any further forward then the midsole line if you are going to be using them for all mountain riding as you definitely don't need the extra quickness. the conditions that i was in was 18in of fresh from 2 days ago that has been rained on for the past two days so the snow was either packed cement, chopped up cement, or straight up crud-oh and a few groomed runs. to give you an idea of how bad the snow conditions were the mountain has been closed for the past couple of days because of the rain and because the pass had been closed due to flooding. so all i can talk about is how they perform in far from ideal conditions. they absolutely destroyed everything but the really packed/wet snow in but were still manageable, just not much fun but why would it be? they are really quick edge to edge, just as good as my old PE's on groomers and i was able to carve up some nice rails along with really quick short turns. great stability in crud both foreward and switch (and this was crud at its worst), started to chatter a bit when i was straigh lining it but i didn't mind. also great stability off drops (bout 10-15ft) and jumps and the landing conditions were far from ideal. as you said willie i didn't notice the extra 20mm under foot from my PE's until i needed it, then it was very appreciated. also the slight rocker which is very new to me was fun... don't know exactly what it did but i'm sure it helped. bottom line: all mountain destroyer that is really fun in the worst conditions so i can't wait till the snow is even medioker.

Don't worry about it henry, your coming off shorter skis so they will be fine, plus he has barons on them so he is using them for more backcountry use i would assume. write a review as soon as you ride them.-will do, hopefully that will be tomorrow. the pass that you have to drive through to get to the mountain i ski at has been flooded for the past like 5 days and now there are trees and crap all over the road

Alright henry--- def go 179 they will be about 184, the 189 would be way to big for all around use, unless your charging big open mountain all the time. I belive off the top of my head they have 3 mounting spots on them, i would go with the middle one which i belive is about 5-6mm back from center that would give you the best for all over the mountain plus still be good for in the park, to far back will hinder on-piste performance, and to far forward you might get some slight dive in pow. write back and let me know how you like them.-will do

ok, now i'm on mu last one willie-absolutely promiseis the obsethed a heavy ski? wondering if i can take them into the park? and i think you have already answered this but will it rail groomers? does it or the VCT handle hardpack/groomers and crud better? and i'm not looking at the blend but will obsethed carve better then them? oh and will they (the obsetheds) carve better then a pair or 160cm K2 PE's (my old ski)?

K2 ObSETHed Alpine Ski

December 30, 2008

hey again willieso i actually ended up talking to a guy up at whistler about the k2 obsethed (not up there anymore). he was talking something about how they have like no camber and some early rise like you said which helps them with groomers and carving?-think thats what he said. so could you explain to me why the obsethed is able to performe on groomer/carving-didn't quite understand what he was talking about. and how does the flex compare to the VCT and propthet? and u said they were an all mountain ski? also demoed an armada ski-which i think was similar to the ANT-in a 188cm length (they were torn up so i couldnt really tell which ski they were). they felt a little sluggish. i was still able to take them in the mogules and the little bit of chopped up pow (by the way thats pretty much all they got up at blackcombe-its all chopped up and moguley) but they were sluggish and i want to make sure the the VCT and obsethed will be better.-alot of ?

Line Prophet 100 Alpine Ski

December 29, 2008

hey willieso i'm up at whistler and i demoed the prophets-prophet 90s actually and they were in the 172cm and were a couple years old. for some reason no one has line skis to demo/rent, and i couldn't find 4frnt anywhere to demo either. so after skiing the prophets i've decided that they are a little too stiff-mabye it's different in the 100s or are they the same stiffness? also i just sunk in like 1 1/2-2 ft of pow, but i assume thats different in the 100. and if i go for the prophets i'm all of a sudden a little hesitent about the 186cm, it seems like maby too intense of a ski and i'll be sacrificing some of thae playfulness that it has in the 179cm-if that makes any sense at all? what do you think? so vct-since i couldn't demo them. could you for the last time give me a comparison beween the prophet 100 and the vct. flex, weight, turns radiud etc. also how they coompare in pow, crud, on groomers, mogles. thanx willie i kno its hell of alot but this is my last question i promi!

Volkl Gotama Alpine Ski

December 17, 2008

You have'nt bought skis yet henry!!!--- hey i was wrong kirkwood got 5ft. and is expecting 3more over the next 1/12 days. Goats are good, but ever ex-racer want tobe powder skier skis them. go for something different. the vct is way better for backcountry jibbing/park use. but like i said at the begining the line blend is still your best option for what you want to do. the gotamas are to stiff for any park use. Also keep in mind that the gotamas the last 2 years have had lots of core problems. since they switched to a lighter core bindings have been pulling out. at my local shop in tahoe it was the most problemmatic ski they sold last year because of it, evertime i post something about it the volkl lovers erase it, there are way better skis out there then the goats, just think outside the box. Come on henry you already know to buy prophet 100 over these.- wow you get 5ft i get 2in, aint life unfair. anyways my friends got the blends and it would just be too boring if we were skiing the same skis

Volkl Gotama Alpine Ski

December 17, 2008

hellolooking between these and the 4FRNT VCT for an all mountain/freeride ski. i'm 15 so i only got the moola for one ski. definately an advanced skier. love to charge hard everywhere and rip on groomers and hardpack (groomers are totally pointless unless ur gona rip em hard in my opinion). but being young i love to play in the trees and park. also want a ski that i can feel comfurtable stompin backflips. looking to go 182cm in vct or 183cm in gotama. figure it will it will help me out with park/backcountry jib. any suggestions between the two?-i gotta say the goats look pretty legit tooGRACIAS

4FRNT Skis VCT Alpine Ski

December 14, 2008

To be honest its a toss up between them, the prophet might have a slight edge on groomers, but as a freeride ski and in powder the vct would be better, I bought vct's so i think there better overall. go 182 it would be better overall. Its dumping at my house now, we are suppose to get 3 feet, i hope so, im getting tired off sking powder skis on groomers.- you have absolutely no idea how jelous i am right now. i'm goin up to whistler at christmas so it better be dumping up there. have a good season willie and thanx for the millionth time.

hey willie i know i said that that was my last qestion but i have a few last clarifying question. the VCT 182cm will rip on groomer, crud etc. right? and they are a good all mountain ski right? i know i'm just second guessing myself but i'm done after this no matter what, which would you mark as the better all mountain free ride ski, the prophet or the VCT? In your opinion. And I know you said 182cm but just to make sure, 182cm for the VCT right?-thanx again my last one i promise. yeah i've been checkin up on where i ski at crystal mountain and there seems to be about 25 inches at the summit. not alot but hey its better then nothing. looks like it might be a slow winter up here :(

December 13, 2008

-willielast questions. first by damp you mean what? and will the 182cm VCT do as well on groomers/crud and at high speeds as the 189? but i take it both sizes will perform better on groomers/crud then a pair of 160 public enemies right (they chattered like crazy)? on my old public enemies and im not saying i did this alot but if i was feeling extra brave and found a landing with good amount of pow (cuz about 50% of the time i ate shit) i would ofton be tempted to throw down a back flip or something. wondering how much the extra weight (especially the VCT and its stiffer flex) is gona affect my ability do stuff like that and spins like a 360 or 540. which reminds me if im not mistaken the VCT isnt a full twintip, how much will that along with its more plank like shape affect riding landing witch? also was thinking of the marker jester for the helix, think it would be a good binding for the VCT? also what do you know about 4frnt bindings?

4FRNT Skis VCT Alpine Ski

December 13, 2008

Hi henry-- I own both a pair of guns and vct's, The guns are fun in soft snow and up to knee deep pow they are a little narrow for really deep days, the downfall of them is that they HATE hard/icey conditions, they don't hold an edge and chatter really bad because of their foam core, ok in the park but a little heavy, also like all salomons they have weak bases. The VCT is one of my all time favorite skis, rips anything hard or soft conditions, floats well in powder up to say thigh deep and super stable and damp, solid bulletproof constuction. The only reason i now ski bacon's over these is because i like the feel of a fatter ski. VCT's are awesome but expensive. Also very fun in the park for a fat ski pretty light. also have you considered the k2 obseths, a little fatter with some rocker to make them floatey and quick.-willie you never cease to amaze me. thanx for the help

December 13, 2008

-for willieI believe I have finally narrowed it down. The prophet 100 and scott p4 are both out. I've been checkin VCT and i'm liking what i see. both it and the liberty helix seem more like freestyle skis. I think I've got the helix down. It's light, poppie, great in pow and you can bring it in the trees. But it also handles well on groomers, crude etc. and high speeds. So I'm wondering again how the VCT stands next to helix. it seems like a slightly lighter ski and how it is as an all mountain ski and weather it can be a quiver of one like the helix? Also curious how boht handle park and clifs? O and i was looking at the salomon gun and do you think u could compare it to the skis above. looks like its a greate off piste pow ski. wondering how it does on groomers, crud etc. and in park. i knoe this is alot of questions so whatever you get to i really apprecitae. -sorry if im getting on your nerves w/all these ?

Line Prophet 100 Alpine Ski

December 9, 2008

It really depends on how much you ski bumps. yes the 90's will be noticably better in the bumps than the 100's. but if you only ski bumps when you are lead to them and you don't really have a choice but to ski them then go with the 100's. they are far better better off piste and busting crud then the 90's (not to say the 90's aren't great) and are equally good on groomers. plus because of their wide base they are more stable at high speeds. so IMO it's not worth it to give up all that the 100's brings to the table just so you can ski bumps more conveniently with the 90's. So once again IMO go with the 100's. Also not to add another ski to the table but you might want to check out the liberty helix. great all around ski. little softer and more playfull than the 100's due to the bamboo core. also lighter. and Oh and definately go with the 186cm.

Yes you could handle the 186, if your still growing you may out grow the 179 pretty quick. if your worried about them being to long just mount more foreward of the line. if you look at the turn radius of the 186 it is 18.5 meters still a very quick ski. I know a lot of people love the jester and its a good binding just expensive, the griffin is really light because of all the plastic in it, to me it does not seem like it would hold up, also the toe piece mounts with only two screws. I could see a big guy pulling it out, people are to concernd about the weight of bindings 1/2 LB is not enough to notice under your foot. I don't know if a wide brake comes standard on the jester, but they are used alot on fat powder skis so there must be a brake availible, and i heard its expensive. good luck with your new skis, they rip.-onece again willie i appreciate all your help

willie this is one last question for you - i think i've about decided on the 186 prophet 100. so now its all about the binding. a couple of people i know have suggested the marker griffon and jester and i'm wondering what you think about those two bindings? I know you like the PX 14 but the marker seems a bit lighter. weird thing is as far as i can tell the jester doesn't come in a 100mm brake. for a reminder im 6'11" 165. So i know i've asked this questiona about 10 time already but 186 a good length?

I want to ski these as an all mountain ski, but I would like to land drops backwards and ski backwards. Also maby the ocational trio into the park. Any suggestion on where to mount. I'm thinking of either the salomon STH 14 of Dynastar PX 14 for a binding. This migh be a very stupid question but is there any difference between the look PX 14 and the dunastar PX 14?

Henry-- I bet you would have a hard time finding the speed limit on these unless you were charging big open lines, as for carving they lay down fat gs style turns at speed with no problem yet you can snap them quick if you need to, they can handle it all no prob, just like all lines slantwall skis.-willie your absolutely amazing my friend, keep it up

Volkl Mantra Alpine Ski

December 1, 2008

As far as I can tell the Mantra seems like a ski that you can really lay down some carves on and can handle speed. But I'm curious how it handles in pow, and weather it can be taken through the park? Also Is it a full twin tip?

One more question, and I really appreciate all the help guys. I'm definately not a park junky but I do ocationally like to take a couple of laps through the park. So how do the 100 hold up in the park? Also really how much better are the Blends in the park? Also if anyone has a suggestion for bindings for both the blends and 100 it would be apreciated?

Line Prophet 100 Alpine Ski

December 1, 2008

prophet 100-- directional twintip ski that skis somewhat like a traditional ski, stiffer then your average twintip because of the metal metrix cap, floats well in powder, busts crud apart and very stable at speed on big mountain lines not to mention very quick for a midfat ski. blends---- a fat freestyle ski that floats well in powder, carves the groomers and still does well in the park. its softer then the prophet because it does not have any metal in it and would not be as stable at speed or on big mountain lines as the prophet. So it is kind of personal prefrence .depending on your skiing style and how you like to ski. both are excellent skis. As for the 90, you live in washington why even consider it.Much appreciated Willie

Okay so I'm really caught right now between the blends and the prophet 100, I live in Washington and besides a couple trips yearly to Canada that where I ski. Needless to say we never get dumped on. What are the pros and cons of each ski and any suggestions on which one I should get? Also how about the prophet 90?
