I love good gear and the basic needs for staying warm and dry regardless of weather condition. I specialize in Aircraft Maintenance sometimes in total darkness with extreme cold and rainy weathers without any bulk or clutter. Always researching, testing new technologies and fabrics to survive the next few days working under fighting freezing rain to complete white outs for 8-16 hours shifts.

WORST ZIPPER EVER!!!!!!

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Hooded Down Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Hooded Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 1 December 29, 2008

After wearing this jacket on the 9th day. The zipper on this Mountain Hardware SL really sucks!!! I had to make 6 attempts and finally when i had light i figured it out. The material on the jacket is nice overall but the zipper has got to go!!!. I have read many reviews on the zipper and took a gamble and it also failed on me. The zipper will not join nicely and the pull tab is way too small. Try zipping this in darkness and you are gonna get pretty aggrivated........At one point i was gonna burn the stupid jacket......

Mountain Hardware SL vs. North Face Polar Jacket

The North Face Polar Down Jacket - Men's

The North Face Polar Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2008

I just bought the NorthFace Polar Jacket. I also own the Mountain Hardware SL jacket. The Mountain Hardware SL Jacket was bought in XL and the North Face Polar Parka in LARGE. The North Face material is thicker and shell is much tougher with more Goose Filling resulting in a warmer jacket. I don't think the Northface will compact better then the Mountain Hardware SL Jacket. The Mountain Hardware SL can be pressed down to a football sized unit for the backpack. Bottom line, the Northface Polar is thicker, warmer and a bit longer, but shorter than the Canada Goose Expidition vs. the Mountain Hardware SL which rides around the beltline. The Mountain Hardware SL jacket has less goose fill = less warmer and is about 1/3 the pirce cheaper vs. the North Face Polar Parka. But defitnately, I would wear the North Face to walk around town or the woods and the Mountain Hardware SL to work or the supermarket...
