Comfy! Cute! Wacky Sizing!

Patagonia Active Mesh Bra - Women's

Patagonia Active Mesh Bra - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 16, 2009

These are divinely comfortable- got two on sale, and ended up buying another when it went on sale. These likely do not have enough support for bigger chested calls (if you look at the specs, it DOES say these are meant for A/B cups) but I am a 32C and it is enough support for my small-medium chest. PLEASE NOTE- the sizing on these *does* run pretty weird. I initially bought a medium and ended up returning for a large, as I am tall and broad shouldered, and didn't much care for the "squished armpit fat" effect that the medium gave me. I'm not really sure WHO a small would fit (a child, perhaps?) but I'd say if you are tiny (32A, maybe 32B), a medium will probably fit you and if you are anything bigger (34A, 34B, 32C) you should go with the large. I have a tiny ribcage and the large is NOT too big around for me. I suspect that if my chest were to suddenly grow a size overnight, this would still fit just fine, although I don't know that it would provide support for hard impact activities.

I've played soccer for 20 years wearing "standard" athletic bras, which are generally not very stylish, so I appreciate the cute v-shaped straps on the back, as well as the cute patterns this comes in. And, while the material feels thicker than some other sports bras, this is because it is double layered- which I also appreciate because it keeps my nips from being obvious, while other athletic bras don't always! (Sorry... inappropriate, perhaps, but truly a plus so had to be mentioned!) The back is quite open and airy because of the cut, so you don't feel suffocated by the material, and it is excellent at wicking away moisture.

Just for reference, I bought a small in the Patagonia Active Sport 24-7 Bra (A-B) and that felt looser/less supportive than the large in this bra. That one does have much thinner fabric, if that is a concern for you with the Active Mesh (for me, the thin fabric/lack of support makes it unwearable for anything except walking, really).

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boy Cut Brief - Women's

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boy Cut Brief - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 16, 2009

Bought these in a small (I am a US women's size 4-6, or 27-28 in jeans) and these fit very well. The binding around the leg area is not too tight (will not strangle you if you purchase the correct size) and the waistband can't be felt at all... very comfortable. The only con is that you can kind of see the binding at the leg opening if wearing formfitting pants (yoga type) but for some reason, it's practically invisible in back while more obvious in front- reverse "visible panty line"! To me, not a big deal as these breathe like cotton but wick away moisture and dry fast like the synthetic they are- but, to those that insist on no lines under yoga pants, you may need to look elsewhere. I also have the Patagonia Active Brief and while those are pretty much invisible under anything (skintight or otherwise), they were a bit tighter at the leg opening and are far inferior to the Ex Officio line in terms of breathability.

Extremely Comfortable, but Strange Fit...

ExOfficio Give-N-Go String Bikini - Women's

ExOfficio Give-N-Go String Bikini - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 February 16, 2009

I got these in a small (I am a US women's 4-6, and a size 27-28 in jeans) and while they are SUPER comfortable, the sizing is a little bit weird. They are pretty high cut on the leg (to be expected, as they ARE a string bikini), which is fine... but the booty area is where the problem lies. The BACK seems to be equally high cut, and rather narrow. I am tall with a long torso so if anything, my underwear usually sit LOWER than the average gal's, but these I had to pull up kind of high in order to avoid "diaper butt" (where the rear/crotch area sort of just bunches up at the bottom, like a diaper). Seems like these would fit better if there were a tad bit less material where the rear and crotch meet, and a tad more material in the back, width-wise. All this being said, I still give them 4 stars as they are REALLY COMFORTABLE (especially for a string bikini, s style I usually despise)- no digging in at the hips as I worried they might. Also, they dry faster than the Ex Officio boycut briefs, simply because there is less material that has to dry- so if you are washing in a sink at night and hanging to dry, you may want to keep that in mind. I wouldn't plan to wear these under anything tight (yoga pants) unless you don't mind showing off your diaper booty and VPL- but under looser shorts (hiking, soccer, basketball) or pants you'll be fine.
